Course Description

Although there is not a cure, gaining an understanding of HIV/AIDs can increase the patient's chances of living a longer and healthier life. There are many misconceptions about this serious virus including many believing that death is soon to follow. Although people can die from AIDS, there are also many patients who live with HIV their entire lives which helps to give hope.

There are many ways people living with AIDS/HIV can choose to live and one of those ways includes in home care. Having family members and friends care for the patient can be a great help to the patient but can also be difficult at times. That is why it is important to take the necessary steps in ensuring that everything is set into place so that the patient is properly cared for and that the caretaker knows what to expect.

This course is ideal for those who need assistance and education in regards to having an HIV/AIDs patient reside within their homes. It examines the risks, how to stay protected, ways to help, symptoms that the patient may encounter and more. It also will help the loved ones of the patient to better understand what the patient is going through emotionally and the choices they may or may not have to face. Since HIV/AIDs can be a terminal illness it is important that the patient and loved ones are prepared as much as possible for what lies ahead. Every patient has a different outcome but this course explores general ways to care for the patient, as well as yourself, both emotionally and physically.
