Health is defined as an optimal state of physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual well being.  The same explanation applies to wellness.  It's like that old saying "You don't have anything if you don't have your health."  Our birth certificates don't have an expiration date.  We're entitled to a lifetime of wellness.  But we have to earn it.

For most of us, there comes a time in life called an "epiphany." This can happen ever so slowly, or so suddenly you are left reeling with the immensity of the experience. Somewhere inside of you a voice (chatterbox) screams out, "Enough!" No more crying, paralyzing fear or fighting to hold on to a toxic relationship that is slipping away. No more dwelling on the promise of tomorrow, but you vow to train your eyes, ears, and heart on the reality of today. This is your awakening!

You realize it's silly to continue waiting for someone or something to come along and rescue you from the hardships of life; and the only fairy tales are the ones that begin and end with you loving and caring for yourself. You stop trying to be perfect and accept the fact that no one is perfect. You stop depriving yourself to maintain a size five and focus on a balanced, healthy lifestyle rather than starving yourself with the latest tofu, grapefruit fast.

As you begin sifting through the whys of your life, such as putting your own viewpoints aside and repeatedly accepting the viewpoints of others, you begin to release some of the philosophies you have outgrown, or should never have taken up in the first place.

You begin to understand there is an entire world out there that can make your own boxed-in world bigger and better, if only you would reward yourself with the same unconditional love you so freely give to others. Accepting yourself and awakening your wellness is not about the next "high" you receive from the admiring glances of others as you strut your new clothes, shoes and Botox injections. You discover true happiness comes from "building and contributing" and not from "acquiring and amassing."

No matter if your life is in a downward spiral, or on autopilot just breezing along, you can create lifetime wellness by changing your thoughts and taking charge of your attitude and health. It's understandable that healthy people are more productive because they are absent less from work. Because they have fewer physical problems, they function better under stress. As you become more cognizant of this fact by observing your co-workers and family, you begin to realize that by taking better care of yourself, you may increase your production as well. This could lead to a pay increase, a promotion, a new career, and more. The sky is the limit.
 
As you become more cognizant of the people around you, try seeing people as they really are, and not as you want them to be.
