Course Description

Taekwondo, also commonly written Tae Kwon Do, is a centuries- old discipline for health, relaxation, meditation and self-defense. It can be learned by anyone, regardless of age or physical condition. Through practice, one finds a greater sense of well-being as well as improved concentration.

Physically, Taekwondo will help you control your weight, tone your body, and improve your cardiovascular and respiratory systems. Your body will have more energy, and your physical strength, flexibility and coordination will improve as well. Taekwondo will also help you maintain good mental health by giving you a positive way of releasing everyday stress and tension. You can release some of that pent up hostility and frustration in a morally acceptable and productive manner. The end result is a healthier mind along with a healthier body.

This course offers information from stretching to increase flexibility through training and competition. Although each Taekwondo club or school will be different, a Taekwondo student can typically expect to take part in most or all of the following:

  • Learning the techniques and curriculum of Taekwondo

  • Self-defense techniques
  • Poomse, or patterns (also called forms) -- either tul, hyung, palgwe, or taeguk
  • Kyorugi (Sparring), including 3,2 and 1 step-sparring and/or free-style, arranged, point, hoshinsul and much more
  • Relaxation exercises
  • Breaking (using techniques to break boards for testing, training & martial arts demonstrations)
