Comprehensive Medical Terminology

This course will help you spell, pronounce and define medical terms. The majority of medical terms are made up of interchangeable word parts that are used over and over again in different combinations. Course Requirements
This course does not require any previous medical background.
This course contains easy to read lessons which can be completed in one to two weeks if necessary but you have 6 months
Course Goals
-Name the body systems and identify their basic components and functions.
-Recognize basic medical terms. Define vital signs.
-Distinguish between signs and symptoms of disease.
-Determine the specialty of care by identifying the meaning of the word root.
-Analyze and be familiar with terms related to tissues and organs.
-Define word root, prefix, and suffix and know how and where to use them.
-Learn and understand medical terms by breaking them down into their component parts and learning the meaning of the parts.
-Learn to construct medical terms from component parts.
-Pronounce, spell, and define commonly used prefixes and suffixes.
-Define anatomy and physiology
-Recognize anatomic position and identify bodily directions.
-Recognize and define terms related to the abdominal cavity and peritoneum.
-Become familiar with planes of the body
-Recognize divisions and regions of the abdomen, thorax and peritoneum.
-Describe a location on the body based on descriptive orientation terms.
-Define cytology, histology, and pathology
-Recognize the terms related to the structure, function, procedure and pathology of cells, tissues, and glands
-Recognize and define terms related to types of disease, pathology of tissue formation, and modes of disease transmission
-Describe the presence of disease relative to the pattern of its outbreak.
-Recognize different medial specialties and medical specialists.
-Identify major organ structures by recognizing the combining form.
-Define common pathological conditions of each body system.
-Recognize basic diagnostic tests for each system.
-Describe commonly used treatment modalities for each body system.
-Describe the techniques of inspection, palpation, percussion and auscultation.
-Identify and understand various instruments utilized in a physical examination as they relate to specific body parts.

Grading Policy
There are quizzes following each of the lessons and a Final Exam (given online). You will receive a percentage grade.
