Course Description
Many people completing our basic programming courses stated (in the course evaluation) that they would like to see us provide an on-line Advanced CNC Techniques course. Well, here it is! It is the next logical progression from our basic courses. We define an advanced technique as any technique that is not commonly presented in a basic CNC class. Many of the techniques we show are quite easy to understand - they're just not among the first things you learn. Additionally, we say an advanced technique is any technique that you don't currently know about that can help you. Indeed, even many experience CNC people will probably discover techniques that they have not been exposed to. Benefits that can be achieved by applying the techniques we show include reducing setup time, reducing cycle time, improving workpiece quality, shortening programs, making machines easier to run, improving your company's CNC environment, and in general, improving your knowledge of CNC. Indeed, given the high costs associated with running CNC machine tools (and the low price of this course), it's likely you'll pay for the cost of this course with the first technique you apply! We present many techniques for the two most popular forms of CNC metal cutting equipment. For each topic, we'll begin by showing techniques that these two machine types share in common. Next, and when applicable, we'll show machining center-related techniques. Finally, we'll show turning center-related techniques. While this class will be of most value to people that work with both machining and turning centers, even people that work with but one or the other should find plenty of techniques that will help them Note that you need to have two software viewers (Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer and Adobe Acrobat Reader) installed on your computer before you can view material presented in the lessons. In order to successfully complete this class and qualify for a certificate of completion and a letter of recommendation, you must: 1) Check in at least twice a week until you've completed the course
2) Complete all twenty lessons
3) Pass twenty tests

Course Goals
The primary goal for this course is to expose the student to as many potentially helpful techniques as possible. Students having limited experience with CNC (less than six months) will be shown countless new techniques that can help. Even experienced CNC people may be surprised at how many techniques they have not been shown. As a secondary goal, we hope to get students thinking outside the box. We call it "aggressive awareness". By seeing how others have solved problems and made improvements, students should begin to see how they can improve their own CNC environments.
Course Materials
The only materials needed to complete this course are included with each lesson. Printable materials include lesson text, practice exercises, programming assignments, and lesson supplements. We recommend that students print everything to retain a permanent future reference of course materials. Printing everything renders a manual that contains over 200 pages.

If interested, students can acquire more CNC-related training materials (CDs, manuals, videos, etc.) directly from our website (www.cncci.com). Grading Policy
Students will be graded on all tests and assignments. Tests are graded automatically and results are shown immediately (on-line after you take the test). Assignments must be turned in for grading. Grades for assignments will be posted within a reasonable amount of time (usually within a few days). I use a pass/fail approach to grading. A 70% score is required for a passing grade for each test and programming assignment. A passing grade for the entire course will qualify the student for a successful completion certificate. Admittedly, some students taking this class may not be interested in certain portions of the class. If for example, you only work with turning centers, you may not be very interested in topics related to machining centers. In these cases, we do ask that you simply do your best. Passing grades will be issued if you make it clear that a given test or assignment is not related to your area/s of interest.

CNC machine tools can be dangerous. The material in this course is intended to be used only as a guide. In all cases, documentation supplied by the machine tool builder supercedes information contained in this course.
Prerequisites
Students should posssess some working knowledge of CNC prior to taking this class. At the very least, they should attend the on-line programming and setup & operation courses we also offer. Preferrably, students should be working for a CNC-using company - and writing programs & making setups for these machines.
