The purpose of Domestic Violence Aide ' Safety Planning' is to assist students in learning the skills necessary to support victims of domestic violence. Participants will achieve success in the areas of researching resources in their community and in doing this will also be offering the knowledge they have gained to service other students. Safety planning is a key component in the goals for this course, and students can test the knowledge they have gained in mock case studies. Students may achieve confidence and knowledge in the areas of domestic violence-safety issues, communication skills, resources, and community supports.

The course is designed for people from all walks of life: having a college diploma, a high school diploma, or no diploma at all, will not enhance capablilites to understand this course. People who choose to take this course are choosing to take it for a specific reason; it could be to help someone they know, they could be a victim themself, or they could use this information to help others. The purpose of this course is to assist you in learning the skills necessary to support victims of domestic violenceYou do not need a college or university degree to offer support. This course is designed for those who are interested in pursuing a career in case aide work,  social support work, and community outreach work. It is also here to assist those who are suffering from domestic violence now, and will aide victims in the areas they choose to pursue to end the violence. This is a self-paced course: instructor assistance when needed, and positive feedback on assignments, tests, and quizzes. The importance of posting information in the forum will also be required: this information is the "sharing of learning" which will aid others in areas they may not have gained knowledge in. I know there are many people who feel that they are totally alone: who may think that no one knows what they are going through, and feel that they have no one to turn to or to talk to about their situation. Some of these people are living in domestic abusive relationships. Some feel they cannot get out, and some may feel that they have to stay. I am here to tell you that you are not alone: there are many others who have been in violent relationships, and many who have moved on to live a happy,violence free productive life! Lesson 1: Introduction to Domestic Violence

This introduction will provide knowledge to the students about myself: The Cycle of Abuse, and Why Do We Choose To Stay in these relationships? This lesson will also include Domestic Violence- Who Is The Abuser Man or Woman?

Lesson 2: Types of Abuse

There are many forms of abuse that people endure and have endured in their past. This lesson takes a look at Physical: Sexual, and Social abuse. Self testing will also be included.

Lesson 3: What Every Person Can Do To Help End Violence

This lesson looks at ways of prevention of domestic violence: steps , action, and helping others end violence. Cultural Communication-learn more! Skills, and the laws regarding domestic violence are also covered.

Lesson 4: Cycle Of Violence- An explanation to patterns.

This lesson covers stages that both the victim and the abuser may go through in various situations.It covers:Denial, Sorry, Tension , Explosive stages,and Victim's responses.Also looks impacts on children: victim blaming, trauma, and recovery.

Lesson 5: Safety Planning-Getting Out

This lesson will look at ways to plan getting out of an abusive relationship. Please use this knowledge you have gained and help use it to end the cycle of abuse. Also includes CHECKLIST.

Lesson 6: If Someone Discloses Abuse To You- What Do You Do?

This lesson will cover dealing with the disclosure of domestic violence. How you should handle the situation, and most importantly how you react. Compensation For Victims of Crime, and Conclusions.

Certificates will be issued to students who have completed: all of the class lessons,and the completion of all assignments as instructed. Any quizzes and tests will also have to be completed. Issue of certificates will also be based on a 70% or higher grade average. If the student has not managed a 70% grade, a make up test can be granted.

In addition to the standard Certificate of Course Completion, Merit Awards may be issued by the instructor at his/her own discretion and are based on student achievement.
