Criminal Laws is a class dealing with the basics in criminal laws and procedures. All 50 states have general criminal laws to protect the rights of the accused. Of course, each law differs somewhat in each state.

We will be dealing the three basic classifications of criminal laws: infractions, misdemeanors, and felonies. We will also be talking about different degrees of these crimes, which are the bases of punishment the state hands out for those convicted of these crimes.

Our first lesson will discuss our Basic Constitutional rights as they apply to the criminal justice system. Our second lesson will deal with these rights as they apply when one is arrested or is being questioned by the police. They will also deal with your rights in certain situations, such as while incarcerated, on community supervision, and after your release from any sanctions. Our third lesson will discuss the classification of crimes committed, examples of those crimes, such as burglary or arson, the degree of crime, and its what the crime is punishable by. Our fourth lesson will deal with many kinds of crimes committed against people, places, or property. We will also discuss about the various drug laws, and the types of homicide, since there are many various degrees of these crimes. Our fifth lesson will guide you through the procedures of the police, from the moment they get a call or observe a crime in progress, to the questioning, arrest, and prosecutorial procedure by which the accused must navigate. This will also include the various kinds of hearings that are held in court. Our sixth lesson will deal with corrections, including jail, prison, probation and related sanctions, fines, court costs, and the death penalty. We will also discuss about restoring your civil rights, pardons, and other post-conviction relief procedures Our seventh lesson will deal with juvenile issues.

Every student will be graded on the basis of test scores, attendance, participation, and lesson submission. Certificates will be issued to those who successfully complete the class. Do you know what to do if you are questioned or arrested by the police?  If you think you might know but are not really sure then this course is for you!!

 

This class, packed with many lessons of interest, gives you an overview of our criminal justice system, its common steps and procedures, and what your rights are when faced with such feelings of uncertainty and hopelessness one feels when he is arrested for crime. 

You'll learn many of the techniques police use to interrogate people including witnesses, many of whom become suspects as a result of the statements they give to police.We will discuss criminal procedures, investigative procedures, the courts, probation, jails and prisons, the rule of law-enforcement officers and bail bondsman, and certain procedures for restoration of civil rights in states that do not automatically restore them.  We will also discuss ways to win a traffic ticket case or avoid points on your driver license, which can raise your insurance rate or have a negative impact on your employment I'm much that. 

 

We will also discuss clemency, death penalty issues, special courts (such as drug court), advice for staying out of trouble, and the proper way of being pulled over by a law-enforcement officer.  We will also discuss some ways you can defend yourself in certain criminal cases.

We will be discussing several aspects of criminal cases such as infractions, misdemeanors, and felonies, including how they are investigated, handled through the courts and the type of punishments that are imposed for these offenses.

NOTE: This instructor is out of Florida and is not an attorney at law. The laws vary from state to state but are quite similar. Because of this, and because of changes which may occur, accuracy is not guaranteed.
