Learn the basics to teach online. This course covers an overview of the skills required to teach an online course, elements that are found in a good online course, how to motivate online students and voices of experience from the distance education field. The final activity of the course is to develop a proposal for implementing an online course.

If you are considering teaching online, this course is a must for you. You will learn hands-on, practical knowledge for being a successful online instructor. Teaching online opens many new teaching and financial opportunities...be prepared to tap the potential of Distance Education by completing this course. There are many books wriiten about teaching online, but few courses available to introduce the "reality" of online teaching.

Anyone who is considering or already teaching online will benefit from this course. High technology skills are not required but the willingness to learn new skills is required. You will be introduced to many of the emerging educational technologies in distance educationtoday.

Objectives: 1. Compare teaching in a traditional (on-the-ground) classroom to teaching in an online classroom 2. Develop a training plan to enhance your online skills 3. Introduce teaching online concepts

Lesson 3 - Good Elements and Practices of an Online Course

Objectives: 1. Introduce elements of a good online course. 2. Introduce good practices in an online course.

Lesson 4 - Know Yourself:Learning & Teaching Styles

Objectives: 1. Explore what teaching style is best suited for teaching online 2. Explore what works with each learning style 3. Develop an Online Teaching Philosophy

Lesson 5 - Motivating Students

1. Explore motivating students online 2. Explore online strategies using the Discussion Board 3. Explore how to create interactivity with your online students 4. Explore personalizing the online course

Lesson 6 - Voices from the Field

1. Introduce actual online teaching experiences 2. Introduce online teaching case studies 3. Introduce lessons learned from instructors in the field 4. Introduce & develop tips for online teaching

Lesson 7 - Final Project - Course Proposal

You will pull all your new found knowledge together to create a course proposal. You may use this at your present school to get an new online course started or use it as an example for future employment.
