Building Children's Writing Skills is a hands-on class that will nurture many types of writing skills. Whether your child is just starting to put pen to paper or is an experienced writer, the assignments are flexible enough to meet his/her needs. Students will receive 2 to 3 exercises each week to develop and build writing skills. Each activity will focus on an important writing skill, like fluency, structure, mechanics, paragraphing, or sentence development. Parents can choose to subscribe to receive the weekly assignments and check them on their own or can choose to turn in the assignments for feedback and suggestions. Subscriptions to this service run for four weeks at a time, and participants can re-enroll for as many sessions as they wish. The goal of this course is to assist parents in nurturing writing skills by providing regular practice activities. *IF* the exercises are done faithfully, students should develop increased fluency, improved mechanics, and better organization in their writing.

In addition, there are 6 lessons for parents/adults to use for discovering how writing develops. Many of these also contain optional exercises for children. Each activity will focus on an important writing skill, like fluency, structure, mechanics, paragraphing, or sentence development. Exercises are new each week, and are available at several levels of difficulty. Parents may choose to receive feedback on children's work from an experienced teacher/tutor or critique the child's work themselves. Those who do not wish feedback can use the promotional code 1000 to enroll for the reduced rate of $10 and will be offered exercises to use or print out for four weeks (total of 12 exercises). Instructor Sandy Fleming has one year of substitute teaching experience, six years classroom experience, and 20 years as a private tutor serving all ages/specializing in serving special needs students and troubled readers. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education/Mild Mental Retardation, Bowling Green State University , Bowling Green, OH 1980 and a
Master's Degree in Education: Mental Retardation, all levels, Learning Disabilities, Indiana University at South Bend, 1986. She teaches two other reading courses for UniversalClass.
