Course Description
This course has been designed for people who use computer and Internet related technology at all levels. It introduces and explores general computing and Internet related concepts and terminology with definitions as well as picture and image illustrations. The concepts and terminology are carefully chosen for the average technology user to exclude terms that are too technical. After taking this course, students will come away with a deeper understanding and better appreciation of the computer and Internet related technologies and become better educated and better versed technology users and consumers. If you are more interested in understanding how computers work, though, you might want to take my 'Understanding Computers' course. If you are interested in exploring different online communications technology, I encourage you to take my 'Netiquette, Emoticons, and Abbreviations for Online Communications' course, which introduces and explains the proper use of netiquette, emoticons, abbreviations, and concepts and terminology for online communications, such as email, discussion forums, chat, and instant messaging.
Course Requirements
The only requirement for this class is a computer with Internet access. If you are reading this, you are all set and ready to go.
Course Objectives and Outcomes
At the conclusion of the course, students will: * acquire a general understanding of computer related technologies.
* have a better appreciation on how the Internet work.
* become better educated and better versed technology users and consumers.
Course Materials
Students are not required to purchase any textbooks nor any software. All course materials will be posted and presented to students in the virtual classroom. There will also be plenty of online resources provided.
Grading Policy
Students will be evaluated based on their understanding of course materials, their participation in and contribution to online discussion, and completion of self-tests and other assignments.
