Course Description

This course is designed to teach the basics of knitting - including those knitters that might need a little refresher course. Whether you have just a little or no knowledge of knitting - this course is for you. Seven lessons provide history, discussion of the tools and how to read and understand patterns and color charts. There are four projects in all - including three designed just for the beginner! The fourth project carries you through three lessons adding to your abilities with each new chapter. This allows you to build your skills and to learn more than just the basics.

After the basics are addressed and you feel comfortable with knit and purl, the final three lessons teach the knitter how to add color and texture through varied yarn and stitch instructions. The course is arranged to use simple tasks to improve your newly acquired or refreshed skill set. They are easy to understand and easy to replicate.

Pictures are provided along with step by step written explanations. Consistent knitting lingo is used to throughout, so there is no need to re-learn your lessons each time. This makes it easier and more fun for you to learn to knit.

Lesson 1: Knitting History and Tools of the Trade

This lesson includes history, required tools, selecting yarns for different projects, weights and plys.

Lesson 2: Let's Start Knitting

For our first piece, we will make a sample to test our gauge and discover what type of natural knitter you are.

Lesson 3: Purling and Binding Off

In this lesson we will discuss purling and binding off your project.

Lesson 4: Checking Your Gauge, Combinations and Ribbing

In this lesson, we will go over what you have all ready accomplished and learn how to combine and ribbing.

Lesson 5: Your First Projects

Some beginning projects and how in increase and decrease.

Lesson 6: Knitting in the Round and Alternate Needles

Originally, round, tube like items such as socks, hats, sweaters or mittens that were hand knit were made using a set of double point needles.

Lesson 7: Change it Up

Once you learn to knit, you will want to incorporate your own sense of style.

Lesson 8: Mores Stitches and Avoiding Problems

There are over 50 variations that combine knit and purl stitches to create more texture in your knitting.

Lesson 9: Putting it All Together

There are several finishing methods for a garment. Once you have completed the body of your knitting, you will need to get your knitted materials in the proper shape.
