Stress Management 101

Stress is one of the most common words used in society today and a phenomenon that each one of us will experience at some point in our life. Stress affects people of all ages, professions and life situations. While we have an innate understanding of stress and what it feels like to be stressed, defining stress can be tricky because we all react to it in different ways. However, stress can be defined as a physical, mental, or emotional strain or tension caused by our exposure to different incidence or occurrences in our lives. When we respond positively to these incidence or occurrences we do not feel stress. However, the minute we are faced with an incidence or occurrences that we feel we cannot handle, we may feel our stress mounting. Stress is subjective to each individual; what can be considered a stressful event by one person may be less stressful to another. Therefore, stress is not caused by the event itself, but how an individual interprets the situation and deals with it. When an individual cannot cope with the demands placed on them and begins to feel negatively, this is considered a stress response. Even though stress has become part of our everyday life; excessive stress can affect a person's health and emotional stability. It can also affect our overall quality of life by reducing productivity, creating, or exacerbat ing , existing health problems, and contributing to premature aging. So what do we do about stress in our lives? How do we deal with it? Prevent it? This course comes in. Working through the lessons in this course will help you understand the origins of your stress and provide you with a practical approach for reducing stress in your life and thus, improving your health and emotional well being.

Diversity Training 101

Diversity training is not a new concept, but one that many organizations have been implementing into their training programs. The idea is that when employees are exposed to a variety of different cultures, individuals with different sexual preferences and people with various personalities, conflict may occur. Diversity training is designed to assist people in dealing with these various situations so that civil rights violations do not occur. Diversity training has been utilized in the workplace for quite some time, but often under different names such as: Race Relations Training Cross-Cultural Training Multicultural Education Diversity extends far beyond race relations in the workplace. It is not only the acceptance of people of color that upper management and CEOs are worried about, it's the acceptance of women, homosexuals and even aging individuals in the workplace. Although there are often several complaints that exist due to the diversification in employees who are hired, such as older employees don't feel as though things work as smoothly as they used to; white males complain about being overlooked for promotions; work isn't as much fun with all of the sexual harassment laws and the many other complaints that people can come up with when presented with a diverse workplace. However, diversification ensures that with properly managed employees and managers in leadership positions, the business can do nothing but grow when they expand the personalities, the racial backgrounds and the genders in the workplace.

Human Resources Management 101

Many professionals who enter into the world of human resources quickly believe that they will succeed in their new found field simply because they have a knack for relating with people from all walks of life. While having 'good people skills' is certainly a positive attribute for working in the human resources field, being in tune with the ever-changing policies and procedures that successfully make a team or company tick, is just as important as being the boss that everyone loves. Managing your rules and guidelines works in tandem with managing 'your humans.' Today, many managers enter the world of human resources simply because they are exceptional managers. They have climbed the rank and file of the corporate ladder, succeeding at each rung, to the point where they are now managing a team, which may include 'kids' fresh out of college or professionals who have been in the workforce for some time, sometimes even longer than the manager himself. Having the ability to create synergy on his team, to drive productivity and provide opportunities for employee growth while developing policies and procedures that apply to all are just a few of the trademarks that make a great manager. Others enter the human resource field by choice. They are the 'people' people who want to work in the actual Human Resources department of a company to become 'the people that staff and operate an organization as contrasted with the financial and material resources of an organization. The organizational function that deals with the people ...' Whether its entering the world of human resources by choice or by being thrown in because of your professional successes, the basic principles remain the same: you not only want to get the job done, but also you want to get it done with good people who work collectively and cooperatively toward a common goal successfully. Hiring the right people, training them, affording them opportunities for growth, all while setting parameters and guidelines, is the key to great human resource management.

Dream Interpretation 101

Dream Interpretation 'A dream that is not interpreted is like a letter that has not been opened. ' ( The Talmud) Across cultures and over the ages -- since the beginning of history -- dreams and their interpretation have both intrigued and bewildered people. From the ancient Greeks and Egyptians (and the peoples before them), to the Sigmund Freud's and Carl Jung's of this world and beyond. That mysterious world we drift into and through, when we sleep, is bound by neither time nor space. It is a land where the impossible becomes possible, and the nonsensical appears completely plausible and practical. IT IS THE LAND OF DREAMS that has neither boundaries nor limitations -- a land where you can, and do, achieve whatever you aim for. BUT as with any other land you need to be able to understand, to be able to speak the language' and that is what this course is all about. We do not claim to cover everything you will want or need to know -- that would be impossible to do and misleading to claim. But after completing the course you will most certainly have the knowledge to make basic sense of your dreams and the ability to begin interpreting them correctly. Fluency will come to you with time, experience and a broadening of your skills. There is so much more we would have liked to include but the contents will most certainly ignite the torches within that will illuminate the way for you. You will learn how to become your own dream interpreter!

Early Childhood Development

Research shows that the early years set the stage for all future development. We know more now than ever before about how young children learn, think and grow. All children are born eager to explore their world and master their development. From birth to a child's third birthday, development proceeds at a pace exceeding that of any stage of life. Infants and toddlers rapidly develop capabilities in emotional regulation, relationships, cognition, motor development, and language. These capabilities form the foundation from which all future development builds. This course is designed to help you do the following: Follow a child's growth and development from birth to three years of age. Familiarize yourself with the developmental milestones of the first three years. Learn and use the information and the skills needed to serve as a caregiver to children. Examine the opportunities for a career in child development, child care, or related fields. Better understand the responsibilities of parenthood. Decide whether children will have a major or a minor place in your future. Caring for young children involves many commitments and responsibilities. Perhaps the greatest of these is helping a child develop a positive self-conandshy;cept and healthy self-esteem. With these assets, a child will be better able to make wise decisions, relate well to others, and assume responsibilandshy;ity for his or her own life.

Solution Focused Parenting with Difficult Teens

'Fix the problem, not the blame' is the watchword of Solution Focused Parenting. It is a hands-on, how-to-do-it course that is under girded by sound theory, but it is not a theoretical course. The principles and techniques have been tested in the laboratory of life. Solution Focused Parenting with Difficult Teens was originally developed for parents of teens who had been placed in residential treatment facilities by the state, but it will work with any teenager. You will learn how to close the door on past failures, search for solutions that are a best- fit for you--not some make-believe parent and child--how to form and implement change plans, and how to avoid the seven traps that kids set for their parents. In one sense, all teens are difficult. That's part of the growing up process. However if the problems around your house are beginning to tie up all your time and energy, take some time out and complete this course. It will give you some tools for managing both your behavior and that of your teen. While many parents have found the on-ground version of this course extremely helpful, no claim is herein made that by using these techniques you will be guaranteed success with a particular problem or group of problems related to parenting. Some situations may be beyond education or re-education issues and require counseling or therapy, for which this class is not a substitute.

Child psychology is extremely important for a number of reasons, not the least of which is being able to understand and accurately predict a reasonable norm for child development. Proper discipline, teaching styles and communication styles are all based on understanding the psychology of childhood, which changes and develops over time. Intervention on behalf of children who have been raised in difficult circumstances or faced traumatic events also hinges on understanding child psychology -- children don't cope with situations in the same way adults do because they do not process information the same way and do not have the same emotional or reasoning skills. By studying child psychology, we can better understand children and equip them to become well-adjusted, more adaptable adults who are capable of living rich and varied lives. We can help our children through crises and enrich their daily lives by interacting with them in ways that are appropriate to their developmental levels. Is it any wonder that so many people choose to study child developmental psychology every year? This course is for all those who want to find out what psychology can tell us about the nature and development of children. This study is intended for students of psychology , those training to work with children in a variety of professional roles, or anyone just interested in understanding how children develop.

Sexual Harassment Compliance

Sexual harassment is a hot topic in today's world--both in the corporate arena and in the personal arena. In this online class we will explore the concept of sexual harassment and look at solutions. Most of the ideas here will be directed toward the corporate arena, however many of the definitions and concepts apply equally to both arenas. Be aware that many aspects of the rules and concepts governing sexual harassment are part of law. That means they must be respected and followed, but it also means that they are changing--constantly. Any sub-topic within the legal field is part of a living code, that means the code has been set out but is always being refined, talked about, tested, renewed, and sometimes discarded. Fifty years ago, online sexual harassment wasn't an issue; today it is. So be aware that this course is not going to replace solid legal council in the area of sexual harassment. Instead, this course will be a guideline to help you understand and end sexual harassment in the workplace. To that end, we'll provide practical advice, suggestions, and ideas on how to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace, and moreover, we'll go into the necessary procedures/guidelines your personnel/HR department should have in place (and posted) in case there is an instance of sexual harassment.

Behavior Management 101

'When E.F. Hutton talks, people listen.' A television commercial announces that this particular investment company is so respected, so knowledgeable, so everything-that-an-investment-company-should-be, that everyone lends an ear when the company makes a statement pertaining to the investment industry, or anything else, for that matter. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of teachers, parents, and childcare providers regardless of the amount of knowledge or expertise that we possess. In fact, we devote a disturbing amount of time, energy, and financial resources in the overwhelming task of managing inappropriate behaviors of students and children, and it does not stop there. It is no secret that juvenile delinquency is a growing problem in our nation. The solution to this ever-rising detriment to society begins years before the adolescent makes his/her first appearance at the Juvenile Detention Facility. Behavior Management is an effective tool for use by parents, teachers, and childcare providers in the development of respectful, well-mannered children, who will later become productive members of society. Behavior Management strategies are designed to foster appropriate behaviors in children. Parents as well as educators can use these strategies successfully to promote enviable behaviors that are socially acceptable and academically beneficial. There is an ever-increasing need to diminish disruptive conduct in our classrooms because failure to do so results in time off task not only for the student or students participating in the disruption, but for the class as a whole. Each time that an educator has to stop teaching in order to reprimand a student, document the incident, and/or contact parents, valuable instructional time is lost. Children who exhibit disruptive behaviors at home create stress, anxiety, and emotional discord that affect every member of the family. This course will reference the specifics of various Behavior Management strategies. You may use them collectively or focus on a single strategy that that addresses a particular concern. You do not need a degree in education or psychology to experience success when using Behavior Management. There is little if any expense involved when implementing these techniques, and you will observe an increase in appropriate behaviors and a decrease in undesirable ones in a relatively short time period.

Perinatal Loss Workshop- Losing a Child in Pregnancy or the 1st year

We grow up thinking that babies aren't supposed to die. They are brand new humans, meant to outlive their parents and live in a future generation. Unfortunately, reality teaches us that this is not always the case. Fading into heaven, babies often prove to the world that they too or often too mortal. When a parent loses a child the world goes dark. An outsider can only imagine the pain and try to ease the grief with words that do not always soothe. The stages of grief seem to be littered on a darkened road through a frightening forest, too terrifying to set foot upon, but it is only a matter of time, hope, support, and realization that sends the glistening light through the trees so that the journey may begin. (c) 2002 Chasse This is an online workshop intended for parents who have lost a baby during pregnancy or after birth. It is a self paced, guided tour through the healing process to work through grief and bereavement issues. Working through these issues in this format is especially helpful in the early stages of grief when the shock and pain is still raw. It is very important to face the issues of loss in order to move on in a healthy manner through life.

How to Improve Your Memory

'It's surprising how much of a memory is built around things unnoticed at the time.' - Barbara Kingsolver, novelist Memory is one of the most basic and important functions of the human brain. In fact, without memory we can't learn. Most people think of memory as how we recall past events, but it is also the building blocks for almost everything we do in the present and future. Our memories provide us with a sense of our own personality and give us the information we need to function properly in the everyday world. Communication, problem solving and relationships all rely to some extent on memories that we use to inform us as we take action. Of course, our brains can't remember everything. Brains simply don't have the capacity; if they tried to remember everything we experienced, there wouldn't be room for anything else. Involuntary muscle function, thought processes, the senses and numerous other activities would be crowded out. There are dozens of variables that affect how much we remember, how long we retain it and whether we can recall it. Fortunately, we can learn ways to improve how much we remember and enhance how long we remember it. This course will explain how memory works, and will also cover these topics: - Strategies to improve Memory - Peg Memory Systems - The Loci Method - Memorizing Numbers - Mnemonics - SCAD: Learning to Become an 'Expert Witness' - Faces and Names - Powerful Public Speaking - Everyday Memory Aids The class is self-paced and you can take it when it fits your schedule. So why not join and learn how to maintain a healthy memory and learn some memory improvement strategies!

Autism 101

Autism Isn'tand#8230; A result of inadequate parenting Nor is it a learning disability. And a diagnosis certainly needn't be viewed as a life long sentence to mediocrity, emptiness, dissatisfaction or lack of either fulfillment or productivity. Autism is plainly and simply a neurobiological condition (more specifically a neurodevelopmental disorder) that comes with lifelong challenges but also brings with it some fantastic lifelong opportunities for growth. Opportunities which are not only limited to the person who has the condition, but also for siblings and other family members, friends and supporters. Certainly, nobody has to be condemned to a less than first rate life because they are labeled in some way, or another, as being defective or less than they can be, solely because they are autistic. Yes, it can be frightening (particularly to a new parent) when a child is diagnosed with a condition that has no known cure and about which many doctors and researchers still disagree. And yes, it may be a different life than a parent would have envisaged. BUT there is much more than just hope, there are living breathing examples of autistic people who have achieved much and will continue to achieve do so, such as the widely acknowledged Dr Temple Grandin (college professor, sought after professional speaker and inventor). Famous people of the past who were very likely to have been in some way autistic, include such as Albert Einstein. So autism is not only treatable but can in many ways utilized and developed as a gift. This course will give you an insight into this condition (once considered very rare) which touches many more lives than people realize, or even care to admit. There is much reason for hope!

Humanistic Psychology

This course is designed to acquaint students with the humanistic movement in the context of psychology and counseling. Some of your learning will come about from classroom experiences, with a moderate part coming from required reading. For the purposes of this class, we define 'humanistic' as referring to those traits, archetypes, or other characteristics which are common to humanity across cultures. 'Humanistic' counselors, then, are those who are aware of such concepts and who implement them to bring about positive changes in themselves and their clients. Human instincts, impulses, and traits are accepted as essentially good. People who deny that which they have in common with others often feel isolated and alone. Abraham Maslow, Carl Rogers, Rollo May, and Viktor Frankl are a few of the better known counselors who brought a humanistic style and worldview to psychology, and whose influence is discussed in this course. Realizing that human nature, with the impulses and traits of a well-developed person, are essentially good and healthy, humanistic psychologists work from the premise that a 'whole' person whose growth has not blocked by trauma or disease is naturally inclined to grow and self-actualize by connecting with other humans and fully experiencing the peak transcendent moments that are the joys of life. 'It is one of the paradoxical and exciting things about the humanistic approach generally that it assumes that everyone is capable of being fully human,' wrote psychologist John Rowan. Where barriers to this exist, a humanistic approach utilizes self-help, loving partners, education, and various forms of psychotherapy can help. This course touches on each of these topics, in addition to discussing theory and history of humanistic psychology and education.

This self-paced online class is ideal for teachers wanting to update their professional skills, classroom assistants seeking more knowledge about the field and parents trying to understand how best to argue for equal opportunities. Be informed and inspired without the hassle of commuting or matching a pre-determined schedule. Each one of us, from the individual consumer to the CEO of an international corporation, is affected in some way by business ethics during the course of his or her life. Therefore, everyone has a stake in the ramifications resulting from unethical business decisions. This business ethics course offers an introduction into the concept of values, morality, as well as cultural beliefs and upbringing in all areas of business, from consumer rights to corporate social responsibility. Decisions made by shift managers or corporate presidents may affect thousands of individuals or entire communities. Consumers today expect and demand integrity, honesty, and transparency in all levels of their environment. Understanding those expectations is the key to communicating core values and behavior not only to employees, but society in general.

Meditation 101

Meditation is a practice by which a person achieves a greater sense of awareness, wisdom, introspection, and a deeper sense of relaxation. Practiced for millennia, it is the discipline of concentrating on a single object, thought, sound, movement, or on attention itself. Many people meditate to achieve a greater sense of spiritual awareness and understanding of their professed religion, but it can be practiced by anyone regardless of their religious beliefs and background. In this course, we will explore the various techniques of meditation, such as sitting, standing, and yoga. Becoming aware of your thoughts, surroundings, sounds, smells, bodily movements, and especially your breath are fundamental techniques of meditation. The basic objective is to be present and#8211; here and now. It is the act of being precisely in the moment, neither controlling your mind rigidly nor letting it go completely, but being aware of who you are and where you are. Meditation is, fist and foremost, about being comfortable and at peace. As we explore the several techniques of practicing meditation, you can pick and choose those practices that make you comfortable. It is important to leave your preconceived notions of meditation behind you, keep an open mind, and be willing to learn the art of meditation.

Evidence Law 101

If you are currently pursuing or are interested in working in areas of law, this course will provide you with the background information you will need to get started. The increasing demand for paralegals, legal secretaries, and law clerks to help attorneys gather and evaluate evidence offers many job opportunities. This course will equip you with basic skills to more effectively deal with the gathering, preparation and presentation of evidence in both civil and criminal cases. In today's modern American society, it seems that there is an ever-increasing amount of litigation in the United States court system. The act of filing a lawsuit for an increasing number of grievances, whether real or imagined, has become quite easy. And, as a consequence of less restrictive tort regulations, it becomes more and more likely that most Americans will spend at least some time in court at some point in their life. While most experiences with court will be routine and mundane civil actions (i.e., without any criminal implications), evidence is still required to substantiate the claims of the parties involved. For criminal cases, the need for a solid understanding of what is admissible evidence becomes increasingly important. It can be seen that, in either of these situations, it is important to have a basic understanding of evidence law and how it works. In cases of life and death, an understanding of evidence is critically important. It can literally mean the difference between a guilty party being punished and being set free. It can also exonerate those falsely accused, thereby preserving the reputation of those truly innocent. This introductory course is designed to familiarize the student with the basic concepts of United States law, the admission of evidence, different types of testimonies, burdens of proof, and more.

Anti Aging Techniques

Perceptions about aging are changing. Today, people are living longer, happier, and healthier lives. Medical technology and care has increased lifespan by years and sometimes even decades. A growing number of individuals are taking an active part in following antiaging techniques and maintaining lifestyles that keep our bodies in prime physical condition, increases the capacity and function of our brains, and benefits our emotional stability and wellbeing. Who doesn't want to be as fit, healthy, and vigorous at 75 as we were at 30? In 1900, few individuals lived past 65 years of age. Today, the 'new middle-age' is considered to be the mid to late 50s, and individuals are actively living well into their 80s and 90s. Medical advancements, preventative care, information and education have played an enormous role in the prevalence of individuals learning about antiaging techniques that add years to our personal life expectancy. Attitude plays a huge part in how each of us ages, and this antiaging course explores myths and perceptions about aging and how people today are breaking down those barriers and exposing the truth behind it. When it comes to slowing or stopping the aging clock and maintaining a younger, more youthful appearance, this course also explains the benefits of exercise, the importance of maintaining and increasing brain activity and the vital needs of the body for water, vitamins and minerals. Exploring ancient antiaging remedies as well as understanding the importance of hormones, antioxidants, and the truth about many cosmetic ingredients provides a fascinating and often humorous look into mankind's desperate attempt to find the ever-elusive Fountain of Youth.

Etiquette 101

Etiquette 101 is an overview of today's etiquette rules, updated for today's fast-paced lifestyles and ever-changing codes of conduct for work and leisure. The role of etiquette has changed over the years. At one time, it served as an indicator of each person's proper station in life. Today, etiquette helps smooth the path of our daily activities, whether it's meeting others in our daily interactions, talking to someone on the phone, offering condolences properly or understanding how to talk to colleagues at a business conference. In Etiquette 101, you'll learn the rules of good behavior for today's most common social and business situations, including the common courtesies of life that many of us have forgotten or may not have learned, from when to offer your seat on a bus to a stranger to how to share a cab. It will also go over telephone etiquette, with the updated rules for cell phone use and the new rules for office calls. Correspondence, including emails, entertaining and being a polite guest, giving and receiving gifts and life's big events are all covered, with examples and#8211; both good and bad! There is also a section on life situations that are never easy, such as death and divorce, with etiquette suggestions that will help you navigate the minefield of emotions surrounding these situations. Finally, a section on workplace etiquette covers the details of everything from how to relate to your boss and subordinates to keeping your social life and work separate. Etiquette 101 will teach you everything you need to know to move graciously through today's world.

Self Hypnosis 101: Reshaping Your Reality

Hypnosis involves the practice of methodically slowing down and relaxing the body's systems until the mind reaches a state of relaxation, or light trance, which allows it to readily accept beneficial suggestions. In this course we will review hypnosis as it pertains to unwanted habits, both physical and emotional, enhancement of skills, and improving our lives, in general. Included are instructions on how to plan your sessions, how to lead yourself into a state of deep relaxation, and come up again when you are ready. You will also learn to 'script' your hypnosis sessions, by carefully crafting affirmations that go to the heart of whatever you want to work on in your life. Also provided are sample scripts to help you learn how to devise your own, as well as a worksheet form for planning out your sessions. The underlying motivation for this work is to replace and reframe negative thinking with constructive, positive thoughts and beliefs through relaxing the body into the alpha state, and suggesting succinct, positively worded ideas while the mind is open and vulnerable to suggestion. We call this course 'Reshaping Your Reality With Self-Hypnosis' because, once your thinking begins to change with the help of these lessons, your life experiences will begin to change. Dive in, have fun, and learn a new approach to life.

Careers in Healthcare

Whenever the field of medicine is mentioned, people generally think about doctors and nurses. In fact, not that many years ago, those medical practitioners just about covered the subject. In recent years, however, the field has grown beyond imagination. In this course, we will look at Careers in Healthcare as a guide for planning an exciting future. Specialization in the medical profession has produced a need for many trained personnel in specific areas. Even physicians have specialized in one field because over the past few decades the amount of knowledge in medical practice has become so vast that one person cannot know everything. Unfortunately, this trend has produced an overabundance of specialists and a shortage of primary healthcare physicians (General Practitioners). As the medical field grew, there arose a need for more support staff in hospitals, doctor's offices, and related areas. Whole careers sprang up in the healthcare profession from Medical Billers to Patient Advocates. This course will discuss some of these areas of specialization within the field as an educational guide for Healthcare Career Planning.

Chemistry 101

CHEMISTRY: It is Not Your Great-Grandfather's Science Anymore Moving beyond the white lab coat and test tube specimen chemistry once was, the science now encompasses a diverse spectrum of branches and sub-divisions. And, while it certainly is fascinating to become acquainted with the many different branches (physical chemistry, organic chemistry, etc) of chemistry that exist, it is reassuring to learn that within the science, as a whole, there remains to be a core compendium of central ideas used across the board. These central ideas, beginning with atoms and molecules, which are in everything that exists, leading up to the laws of conservation of matter and energy whereby nothing really disappears it simply transfers to another object or is absorbed; are all building blocks to more advanced forms of chemistry. These building blocks will be the focus of this course. Not only are the tenets of chemistry -- from the states of matter to the laws of thermodynamics -- useful in scientific circles, but they are directly applicable to a wide, wide range of everyday situations from cooking and cleaning to automotive repair and industrial manufacturing. While you may desire to expand upon your basic understanding of chemistry's main principles and central ideas, it is truly essential that you first master the basic components before bridging out to the more labyrinth levels. In gaining mastery over the fundamental concepts, you will be able to take in new ideas, theories and principles without losing sight of chemistry's basic teachings.

Workers' Compensation 101

Since as far back as Ancient Greece and Rome, there has been a system in place in all civilized societies to compensate those individuals who have become injured or disabled due to a work-related accident. The laws and regulations governing what is known today as Workers' Compensation have changed dramatically over the last 1700 years. This course will take a close look at the entire Workers' Compensation system, from the filing of an initial claim, to a detailed look on how to choose the right doctor and lawyer, how to represent yourself in the absence of a lawyer, and, most importantly, a detailed look into the specific federal, state, and private benefits that are available to people who have become injured in their workplace. Filing a Workers' Compensation claim need not be a daunting task. Every worker must seek the advice of qualified professionals. This course will provide an understanding of the core concepts in a Workers' Compensation claim, as well as education on where to get further information. Being injured in the workplace can mean a significant change in one's life, and it is important to ensure that one's rights and#8211; either those of an employee or an employer and#8211; are being fully protected.

Kitchen Sanitation 101

Nearly every few weeks, a new story seems to hit the headlines about foodborne illnesses. Salmonella in peanuts. E. coli in fruit juice. Mad cow in hamburgers. Every year, thousands of people become seriously ill from foodborne illnesses, and some even die. A single outbreak of salmonella in peanut butter in 2008-09 forced the largest food recall in U.S. history, sickened more than 600 people, killed 9, and caused parents everywhere to question the safety of a childhood staple, the peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Add to this the stories of sick cattle being processed for food in meat packing plants, and it is easy to see how fragile our food supply system can be. This online course will explain why and how bacteria transfers from one place to another, multiplies, and makes people sick. We'll also explain the best ways to prevent foodborne illness, including hand washing techniques, dishwashing practices, facility cleaning, best practices for storage, food handling, temperature monitoring, pest prevention, and managing relationships with the health department. Also, if you ever plan on designing or managing your own restaurant, this training module offers some helpful suggestions about kitchen design and planning.

Personal Protective Equipment

This Personal Protective Equipment Course is designed to help those working in the various industries that utilize PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as a means to protect the worker from the natural harm that comes into their work area. This online class discusses the various hazards that personal protective equipment is designed to protect the worker from and outlines the various pieces of personal protective equipment, such as hand wear, footwear, face protection, eye protection, garments, partial garments and other equipment used to protect the physical body, eyesight and hearing for workers who work in various capacities. The types of personal protective equipment vary with job descriptions and are described in detail, according to body parts protected. Each item is defined in terms of its use, its common function, and the materials utilized to make the various parts of personal protective equipment. This course also includes separate modules for different job descriptions--such as firefighters, construction workers, beekeepers, the military and even the police department. Those working in firefighting, as is shown in the course, wear completely different personal protective equipment as do workers working in a chemistry laboratory or in a beekeeping facility. The equipment is explained, the materials they are made of is discussed and the standards to which they must adhere to is explained. Personal protective equipment must be tested for its ability to maintain its integrity and properly do its job. Standards are discussed in this course and vary depending upon which type of equipment a person is dealing with. We'll identify the standards and their varying degrees of protectability for various uses.

Writing Basics 101: Spelling, Grammar, Punctuation, Writing Structures

Most of us learned spelling and grammar in elementary school and brushed up on the rules occasionally in junior high or middle school. Once we entered high school, it was assumed we knew and remembered all of the essentials -- and slowly we discovered that although there were some rules we just had to look up, we simply stopped worrying about 'the minor details.' It's time to relearn those 'minor details' that can help you write, and read more effectively. But it's hard to fix something unless you know how it works. This self-paced, stress-free course was developed not only for students wanting to improve their basic writing skills, but also for business writers, creative writers and office staff wanting to improve poor work related writing and avoid embarrassing their boss and themselves. Our innovative course is designed as a refresher course for those who need to brush up on their skills and a reference for anyone who wants to be able to look up the rules for confusing grammatical questions quickly and easily. After you've reviewed the basic rules of grammar and spelling, you can move on to the lessons on writing style for tips on improving your sentence and paragraph structure, how to polish your writing and how to avoid common errors. And because the course is online doesn't mean that you'll be left on your own. The instructor will be grading assignments and tests and is available through email to answer questions and provide guidance. Why not join us, learn at your own pace and your own schedule and reap the benefits?

Enhance Your Everyday Vocabulary

Have you ever been reading a newspaper or listening to a commentary and been confronted with a word you didn't know -- like for instance, plethora ? Over the years, you've seen and heard this word 20 times but you don't quite manage to remember the definition or use the word yourself when writing or speaking. You were supposed to have learned all this vocabulary stuff in high school or college but maybe you were absent that day? Well, It's never to late to fill in some of the gaps. Increase your vocabulary at your own pace! Memorize just 10 words a day - or a week - whatever works for your schedule. In some cases it's not really memory work - it's just 'refreshing'. Amaze your business associates, family, friends, and (more importantly) yourself by enhancing your conversational skills. Not only will you avoid the embarrassment of misusing or mispronouncing words, but also with the right vocabulary you may impress others with your dexterous and inventive handling of important concepts without being considered a show-off. Plus vocabulary enrichment does wonders for your self-esteem and certainly has the added benefits of helping with crossword puzzles and Trivial Pursuit. Through these interactive lessons, which have divided up ten different words in twenty lessons, you will learn interesting and relevant vocabulary. Words used frequently by 'experts' to describe various cultures, words used in restaurants, words used in economics and business, legal words, technology terms, psychological jargon and much more. You'll not only practice using the words in a sentence you create, you'll also be writing short paragraphs with some of the words. Although the course emphasis is on vocabulary building, you'll have the added bonus of receiving some general writing assistance. So join the class and retain some of those words you once learned and promptly forgot.

How to Improve Your Concentration

Concentration is a part of our daily lives. We concentrate on our work and our life situations, either consciously or subconsciously. Is focus the same as concentration, and if not why are the terms often used so interchangeably? Why can some of us read a book, listen to music, and think about the day all at once? Why can some of us simply focus on the task at hand and find it difficult to think about anything else? How does age play a role? Are your concentration skills and ability to focus improved or taken away from based on your age? This course consists of eleven distinct lessons that will explore the process of concentration, factors that affect and enhance concentration, and ways of improving the concentration process. We will delve into the thought process, and how different circumstances can affect one's ability to focus and concentrate effectively. Furthermore, we will investigate the relationship between focus and concentration. Studies indicate that diet and the way we exercise our brains now can decrease the risk for Alzheimer's later. Certain foods and vitamins have also been reported to increase brainpower and improve the power of concentration. Lastly, the method and environment for your concentration will depend on the task that you need to accomplish. Not every task requires a loud music filled environment, nor does every task require a quiet library like setting. Can your concentration skills use some fine-tuning? We invite you to find out!

Team Management 101

Team Management Is -- Designing and Developing a Team Committed to a Common Purpose 'No man will ever make a great leader who wants to do it all by himself or to get all the credit for doing it.' (Andrew Carnegie) 'Managing' used to be just telling people what to do and getting merchandise out the door. But as time marched on, workplace conditions changed again and again -- and workplace complications paralleled the pace of these changes. Today's working world requires much more of the average supervisor or manager than simply setting goals backed up by ultimatums. Managers need to be team leaders. They need to understand and accommodate their employees' different working styles and personalities. In a team oriented atmosphere, individuals contribute to the overall success of an organization while working with other team members to attain the objectives of the team and organization as a whole. A team is not just a collection of individuals. It is so much more. The total 'team' being far greater than the sum of its parts. A properly developed and managed team synergistically harnesses its individual members' talents, experience and energies. It really is the together part that makes a great team. For example: R Teams intensify focus on the task at hand R Teams do work that ordinary workgroups can't do. R Teams make better use of resources. They are a way for an organization to focus its most important resource, its brainpower, directly on its problems. R Teams mean improved production. As they straddle all the functions contributing to a process, teams naturally understand all steps needed to improve production. Join our insightful Team Management in Business course today!

Resume Writing 101

One of the most important and intimidating steps in the job search process is writing a solid resume that gets the attention you want and need. Unfortunately, many job seekers get overwhelmed before they even get started. The result is poorly-written resumes that are built on top of templates that don't do the job seeker any good. Today, resumes must appeal to potential employers while also being optimized for the electronic age. Whether you are handing a resume over in person or are emailing an electronic copy to be added to an online database, the words you use and the formatting you choose will make a big difference in whether or not you get that interview. This course teaches you not just what a resume should look like, but what it should say. It walks you step-by-step through the creation of the most common sections found on resumes in today's job market. In addition to helping you determine what information should be included, it also goes a step further to help you realize what pitfalls to avoid when creating this powerful, job-searching tool.

How to Write a Grant Proposal

Did you realize that you are most probably an experienced grant writer already? 'NO' , you say, 'I've never written a grant in my life before' -- but you have. Most people out there have asked somebody, at some time, for something in writing (one way or another), so you have most likely followed some of the basic principles and procedures of putting a good case forward for something you want (and not necessarily for money). And basically that is what a grant proposal is all about. Okay, there's a little more to it than that--but the techniques you consciously (or unconsciously) learned when putting together those requests, when submitting them and SUCCEEDING, are a fabulous place to begin. BUT obviously you need to polish up that gem by building on the basics, learning the techniques, and following the requirements and conditions for writing successful grant proposals. And there is no better place to start than with this course. It doesn't supply all the answers, no one source does, but it's approach to the subject of grant writing is clear, straightforward, and easy to understand. It doesn't matter whether you are looking at grant writing just as a means of helping your child's school, or looking at it as a part or full-time career. You can and will be successful if you set your mind to it and invest a little of your time in carefully going through this course, researching sites suggested in it, and building from there. Join us today, and let's learn how to write a successful grant proposal!

Energy Healing

Energy Healing, what is it? How is it different, or is it the same, from Color Therapy, Crystal Healing, Reiki, Visualization, Touch Therapy....? Can I do this myself? How would I go about setting up a practice? These questions will be answered in this course. Today, energy healing encompasses a broad territory, with many individual schools of thought, branching out into even more new territory. And while we will introduce some of the more popular schools of thought within this course, it isn't our purpose to laud one of them above the other. Instead, it is our intent to welcome you to the world as seen through the eyes of an energy healer -- regardless of your particular specialization. After you've completed this course, you'll have a clear understanding of what energy healing is, how it works and how you can make it work for you -- in a personal or a professional fashion. There are so many types of healing therapies out there, and this course provides a realistic starting point for anyone interested or curious about what this is all about.

Sifting Sensibly: The Thinking Man's Guide to Biblical Faith

This is a course that will help Christian students who have to read secular materials to do so with increased discernment. The course uses the S.I.F.T. strategy developed by Dr. Carney for evaluating any communication with which a student may come in contact. A Christian student who attends a secular college is sometimes 'blown away' by the ideas that bombard him. He or she may also pick up many things that are inconsistent with his or her basic faith--without realizing what is happening. This course will mention basic principles to which the student will want to hold in a steadfast manner. It will also help the student to be aware of the basic principles of humanistic thought. Watching for these signs will help the student to think critically, and to make up his own mind without being blindly thrown about 'with every wind of doctrine.' This course will also be helpful to Christian homeschool parents as they often use a wide range of material in designing their courses of study. Parents of Christian students who attend public/government schools will also find help with teaching their children to be discerning students.

Learn what the treatments are, both traditional and non-traditional, who to see and what you can do for yourself. There are no pre-requisites for this class. Knowing that stress is a part of life, why not learn to be proactive, not reactive to life's challenges.

Child Sexual Abuse Prevention

JOIN NOW !!!!! Child Sexual Abuse is rampant around the world, and it happens on a daily basis. Somewhere a child is being forced to perform sexual acts while you are debating on if you should educate yourself further about this topic. The lessons I have developed are designed for parents, caregivers, and anyone who has an interest in the prevention and the protection of our children . I have taken all of my knowledge and put these lessons into terms that anyone can understand, and will be available for explanations if needed. There will be no technical wording which may cause the student some discomfort: it is designed as a ' work at your own pace ' course, and instructor availability when needed! Of all the books available on child sexual abuse, I have not come across one that deals with the prevention of it! Most books that are offered are for after the fact. One thing that parents and caregivers could use is a learning tool that can be used to explain the realities of abuse. A tool that can lead adults into a comfortable conversation with children about this subject. There are five lessons for you in this course which offers the following : THE ABUSER , SAFETY TIPS, IMPACTS OF ABUSE, THE VICTIMS, WHERE ABUSE CAN OCCUR, THE JUSTICE SYSTEM, EDUCATION OF OUR CHILDREN, and CASE STUDIES . There are so many relevant topics listed in these five lessons that it is impossible to list them all! Certificates will be issued to students who receive a grade average of 70% or more! This provides an excellent opportunity to add your new expertise to your resume, and to start putting your knowledge to use to prevent child sexual abuse! Constant instructor feedback will also be given to students: and sharing of knowlege would be beneficial to all enrolled, this can be done by posting new information in the forum area! copyright 2002.
Streetproofing Our Kids

JOIN NOW !!! Don't talk to strangers Is the most common thought we have as parents and caregivers when we first start thinking about safety for our children. Unfortunately, it's not enough: as you are aware, child abuse seems to have increased dramatically. And everyone I talk to seems to wonder what else they can do to ensure the safety of their child. All I can say is keep learning about safety: learn new techniques, share your information, and most importantly TALK TO YOUR CHILDREN ! Not once or twice, but many times. In a majority of incidents regarding children who have been assaulted/abducted, the abuser was known to either them or a member of the family. Tips for parents: daycare workers, teachers, friends, and family will find useful are in this course! To help keep your kids safe, take this course and help others become more informed. This course is designed to assist parents, caregivers, teachers, and anyone who has an interest in keeping our children aware of the dangers in our streets, schools, and possibly even our own homes. There is no need for a college diploma or a university degree to take this course. It is designed to assist anyone who needs to know how to streetproof a child and what you can do to make a difference. This course can be done at your own time frame, in your own home, and done with your child at the same time if you wish!
