This course introduces, explores, and illustrates netiquette, emoticons, abbreviations, acronyms, concepts and terminology related to online communications, including (but not limited to) email, online discussion forums, chat, and instant messaging. Students will learn terminologies used in the various online communications tools with definitions, image and picture illustrations. The focus is on netiquette rules, use of emoticons, commonly used abbreviations and acronyms for online communications, and instant messaging. The only requirement for this class is a computer with Internet access. If you are reading this, you are all set and ready to go.

Course Description
This course introduces, explores, and illustrates netiquette, emoticons, abbreviations, acronyms, concepts and terminology related to online communications, including (but not limited to) email, online discussion forums, chat, and instant messaging. Students will learn terminologies used in the various online communications tools with definitions, image and picture illustrations. The focus is on netiquette rules, use of emoticons, commonly used abbreviations and acronyms for online communications, and instant messaging.

If you are interested in general computing or Internet related concepts and terminology, I recommend you take my "UnderstandingComputer & Internet Terminology" course. (All these courses may be taken in any order.)
Upon completing this course, Netiquette, Emoticons, & Abbreviations for Online Communications students will be able to: * apply proper netiquette 'rules' when engaging in various online communictions
* identify and use appropriate emoticons for online communications
* recognize and properly use common abbreviations and acronyms for chat, email, and instant messaging
* understand the concepts and terminology related to Instant Messaging (IM) and know the various features different IM service providers provide
* understand various concepts and terminologies commonly used when discussing communications such as email, chat, and instant messaging.
Students are not required to purchase any textbooks nor any software. All course materials will be posted and presented to students in the virtual classroom. There will also be plenty of online resources provided. The only requirement for this class is a computer with Internet access. If you are reading this, you are all set and ready to go.
This course offers 1.0 CEUs upon successful completion. You may take this
