Have you ever wondered how Christianity spread so far, so fast. Do you know who were the first Christian missionaries? They were the original Twelve Disciples. They, along with others like Joseph of Aramathea, and Mary Magdalene, are the reason that Christianity is the largest and fastest growing religion in the world today. Where did the Apostles go? What did they do? How did they die? Only one died a natural death. The answers to these questions and more can be found in this course. It is not 'preachy,' but is simply a statement of the 'facts' as we know them. This class would interest people of every religious belief. The requirements for this course are very simple. Of course, Internet access is necessary. But beyond that the only requirement is a desire to learn more about the history of the early Christian faith. The student should use this course as a springboard to do further research on the fathers of the Christian faith. Enroll today! This is a self-paced, online course. You have 6 months to finish. An instructor will monitor your progress and assess your body of work at course completion. UniversalClass™ offers many wonderful learning tools to help you get the most out of your online course, including an online portfolio service that manages all your course completions.

Course Lessons

  1. Introduction - How this Class came about.
  2. The Apostle Peter - Peter is the most familiar, discussed and studied of the Apostles. In this lesson we discuss what he did after the Crucifixion.
  3. The Apostles Andrew and Jude - The Apostle Andrew was Peter's brother. As with the other Apostles, he evangelized throughout the known world. Jude, in contrast to Andrew is not as well known. This lesson discusses both Disciples evangelistic missions.
  4. The Apostle James the Greater and The Apostle John - Along with Peter, and Andrew, John and James are two of the better known of the Apostles. James became the first of the twelve to be martyred, while John died a natural death.
  5. The Apostle Matthew - In the Bible, Matthew is known by his profession. Tax Collector.
  6. The Apostle Bartholomew and Judas Iscariot - Although not very well known, Bartholomew is mentioned the sixth most often times of all the Apostles in the Bible. Judas Iscariot is often known as the Betrayer. Why? Is that title justified?
  7. The Apostle James the Less and The Apostle Philip - This Apostle James was given the name, "the Less" to distinguish him from the other James. James was likely the first Bishop of Jerusalem. Philip is an interesting character often confused with the "Deacon Philip."
  8. The Apostle Thomas and the Apostle Simon - Most of us know this Apostle as "Doubting Thomas." What did he do in the Far east? He is sometimes confused with the Apostle Simon Peter. Simon is also sometimes known as the Zealot
  9. The Apostle Paul - Paul was not one of the original Twelve, but he was very instrumental in the development of the early Church.
  10. Mary Magdalene and Joseph of Aramathea - Mary Magdalene was often referred to as the "apostle to the Apostles." Most of us know very little of Joseph of Aramathea. He may, however be one of the most interesting persons in the early Church.
  11. Pontius Pilate and King Herod - King Herod was definitely not one of the Apostles. He did, however have a role to play in the early Church. Pontius Pilate was the Roman Procurator who was instrumental in the Crucifixion.
