Course Description

In this course you will learn the basics of Cascading Style Sheets - how to save time and effort by separating content from design. CSS gives you control, and enables you to edit or altar one page or your entire Web site in moments instead of hours. You will learn how to convert HTML tags to CSS elements, and to control those elements in the DOM (document object model) with Java Script and DHTML to quickly create and maintain professional looking, dynamic pages and Web sites.

InCascading Style Sheets you will learn the basics of Cascading Style Sheets - how to save time and effort by separating the design of your pages from their content. This course is for students who are at least somewhat familiar with HTML, and can find their way around an HTML editor. In this course you will: 1. Learn to separate content from design. 2. Learn to use inline, embedded, and external style sheets in HTML documents. 3. Learn to use the CSS Class and ID attributes to define and control elements in your Web pages. 4. Create dynamic, professional looking Web sites.

The eight lessons include: Introduction, Inheritance and Conflicting Styles, Formatting Text and Fonts, Formatting Colors and Backgrounds, Exploring CSS Class and ID Attributes, Create Your Own HTML Tags, Positioning Block-Level Elements, The Document Object Model.

Introduction - This lesson clarifies the need for style sheets. It defines how application of the different types of style sheets minimizes the time and effort required to design professional looking Web sites. The lesson also introduces the W3C Web site for CSS.
Inheritance and Conflicting Styles - This lesson provides a clear explanation of the cascading order of style sheets. It explains the potential for conflicting styles, and how to avoid or resolve style conflicts in your Web designs.
Formatting Text and Fonts - In this lesson you will learn ways to present text using CSS that really opens up the screen, makes your content more legible, and attracts greater interest in your pages
Formatting Colors and Backgrounds - Now CSS will teach you to control, not only the page colors, backgrounds, and images, but the color, background, and image properties of every element on the page.
Exploring CSS Class and ID Attributes - With CSS "Classes", you will learn to alter the inherent characteristics of any HTML tag for your design purposes. ID's, enable you to give unique identities to elements to control them with Java Script functions.
Create Your Own HTML Tags - In this lesson you will learn how to create your own block-level and inline HTML tags or elements and programmable objects using DIV and SPAN tags in conjunction with the CSS Class and ID properties.
Positioning Block-Level Elements - This lesson covers absolute and relative positioning of block-level elements, formatting the block-level box model, and CSS element's visibility controls.
The Document Object Model - This lesson introduces the "Document Object Model" (DOM), defines the various versions operating at this time, and illustrates how the DOM interacts with Java Script to create dynamic content in your Web pages.
