For over sixty years, Little League has been a provider of a wholesome, family-friendly environment for children to play baseball. Focusing primarily on children from ages seven to fourteen, the program is geared more toward producing superior citizens than honing tomorrow's superior athletes. In order to accomplish the goal of promoting skill development and good sportsmanship essential to baseball, it becomes important to have coaches that understand how to impart knowledge to their players regarding how the game should be properly played. This class will provide the information you must know.

Course Description

Young baseball playerHow to coach little league baseball is an ideal guide for any coach or parent of young players. Whether you are new to coaching youth baseball or looking for ways to improve your techniques, this course will help move you and your young team towards a great season!

 

For over sixty years, the non-profit organization known as Little League Baseball, Incorporated, has become the de facto starting point for children interested in the game of baseball in the United States.  In order to accomplish the goal of promoting skill development and good sportsmanship essential to baseball, it becomes important to have coaches that understand how to impart knowledge to their players regarding how the game should be properly played. This course will provide this information.

 

This course focuses on the skills, drills, and attitudes that are core to establishing a good Little League Baseball team.  Each of the lessons in this course will cover a certain aspect that is integral to Little League Baseball. We will examine how to get involved; how to form a team; how to get the equipment needed; and ways to coach various game-related and character-building skills, such as batting, pitching, base-running, conditioning, catching, and running practices.

This course offers 1.0 CEUs upon successful completion. You may take this online course with or without CEU documentation. An online and hard-copy Certificate of Course Completion displaying your coursework and CEUs earned is included with the CEU Option. Course Lessons

  1. Lesson 1: An Introduction to Little League Baseball - This lesson describes the history of Little League and the ages for each division.
  2. Lesson 2: Getting Started in Little League Baseball - This lesson is about starting a league, basic equipment needed, and baseball terminology.
  3. Lesson 3: Teaching the Basics - Besides learning the rules and terms of the game, there are a number of fundamental skills essential to fully enjoying and succeeding at Little League Baseball. One of the most important skills is discipline.
  4. Lesson 4: Batting and Running - This lesson builds on the skill sets introduced in Lesson 4. Once the basics of how to warm up, grasp the ball, throw, and catch are established to some degree, players should be taught the skills of offense: namely, batting and base running.
  5. Lesson 5: Pitching - This section details the skills and mindset necessary to be a good pitcher and how to train pitchers both physically and mentally for the challenge.
  6. Lesson 6: Catching - Not only is the catcher in danger of injury on each pitch, but he or she often calls the pitches and makes critical plays (such as catching foul tips, tagging out runners trying to slide or plow their way to home base, and nabbing pitches.
  7. Lesson 7: Game Day - This lesson will focus on specific offensive and defensive strategies in Little League that will help coaches to improve the performance of their team by bringing all the disparate parts of this course together into a focused, unified vision.
