Most supervisors are promoted from within. Often, there is little preparation, training, guidance, or support provided to new supervisors. The reality of their situation becomes readily apparent, and the previously competent and confident employee may feel inadequate, confused, and overwhelmed. This course is designed to provide information on the key skills needed by the new Supervisor.  Participants will have the opportunity to discuss, practice and apply skills learned.  Topics include: supervisor's role and responsibilities; fundamentals of human resource management and increasing productivity; handling day-to-day decision making; employee/labor relations.

This course offers 1.0 CEUs upon successful completion. You may take this online course with or without CEU documentation. An online and hard-copy Certificate of Course Completion displaying your coursework and CEUs earned is included with the CEU Option.   1. Lesson 1: The Supervisor's Role - An introduction to how supervisors fit into an organization, and their role in meeting its objectives.
  2. Lesson 2: Leadership - Effective supervisors are also good leaders. This lesson provides an overview of leadership characteristics and styles, and how to apply them.
  3. Lesson 3: Motivation - A look at what motivates employees, and what that means for supervisors.
  4. Lesson 4: Decision Making - An overview of the decision-making process, with tips and guidelines for making individual and group decisions.
  5. Lesson 5: Communication - A review of key communication skills for supervisors, including listening, speaking and conducting meetings.
  6. Lesson 6: Employee Relations - A supervisor's success is measured by employee performance. This lesson reviews common problems, and tips for managing them.
