This course is designed for those students who are interested in learning about using medicinal herbs for basic healing purposes, but have no previous experience.  For those curious or intimidated by the healing power of plants, this class will gently guide you through this first step of a long and fulfilling journey with herbal healing.   This comprehensive introduction to herbalism addresses the questions, " Who benefits from herbal medicine? How does it differ from western medicine?   How does it work with the body?  What herbs are beneficial to health and healing?" as well as many more.  It also includes an detailed notes of key medicinal herbs,  basic preparation and application, and an overview of alternative medicine practices.  Satisfy your curiosity for herbal knowledge and take your health and wellness into your own hands!

Course Lessons

  1. Basic Herbal Concepts - This lesson addresses the question, "Why should I use herbal medicine?" by going over some key reasons as to why herbal medicine is important in today's world. It also defines basic concepts of herbs and key methods used in choosing which herbs to use.
  2. Herbs as Medicine - This lesson will outline just who can use herbs as medicine. We will then define different forms of herbal preparations, and go over some important concepts about how to take them. Basic rules will be outlined on what to expect when taking these herbs.
  3. Major Elimination Channels - This lesson will focus mainly on the major elimination channels present within the body. These include the urinary system, the intestines, skin, and respiratory system. For these, basic mechanics will be discussed and beneficial herbs examined.
  4. Herbal First-Aids - This lesson will focus primarily on some key medicinal plants used for first-aid purposes. Specific uses for these herbs will be discussed, as well as significant facts about them.
  5. Key Medicinal Plants A--C - This lesson will focus mainly on key medicinal plants starting with the letter A through C. These herbs are important in their nutritive & medicinal power, as well as their availability and ease of use. This lesson should serve as a useful reference.
  6. Key Medicinal Plants L--Z - This lesson will focus mainly on key medicinal plants starting with the letter L through Z. These herbs are important in their nutritive & medicinal power, as well as their availability and ease of use. This lesson should serve as a useful reference.
  7. Key Medicinal Plants D--K - This lesson will focus mainly on key medicinal plants starting with the letter D through K. These herbs are important in their nutritive & medicinal power, as well as their availability and ease of use. This lesson should serve as a useful reference.
  8. Other Natural Health Approaches - This lesson will go over other natural health approaches by reviewing alternative health professionals. Brief descriptions of each are given, as well as education and licensing required. Herbal healing is often complemented by these alternative therapies.
