Introduction to Paganism taught by Rev. Leslie Linder, M.Div. seeks to educate students on the basic beliefs and practices of people practicing "paganism" or "earth-centered" traditions in their varying forms. More details about the varying definitions of Pagansim are discussed in class. This eight lesson course is designed to give students a solid introduction to "pagan" or "earth-centered" belief systems. The course is designed around the text, Paganism: An Introduction to Earth-Centered Religions, by Joyce and River Higginbotham (Llewellyn, 2002). Course Lessons |  | Lesson One: What is Paganism?Utilizing material from Chapter One of our text, this lesson gives some basic terms and concepts that students will need in order to understand our journey through Pagan, earth-centered religions. | Lesson Two: You Are What You BelieveWhile utilizing some material from both chapters one and two of our text, this lesson finishes a cursory introduction to the basic terms and philosophies behind Paganism. | Lesson Three: A Pagan View of DeityThis lesson discusses how human beings find religious or spiritual meaning. | Lesson Four: What about Satan?Based on chapter four of our text, this lesson discusses historical development of "Satan" or "the Devil," as well as the concept of evil. | Lesson Five: The Living UniverseThis lesson discusses how Pagans view their connection to the rest of the universe, and how this connection plays into what we call "magick." | Lesson Six: Magickal Theory and PracticeMagick as a concept which Pagans have developed due to the philosophy of interconnectedness. | Lesson Seven: Pagan EthicsExplores Pagan ethics and encourages the student to take an "ethical snapshot" of her or himself. | Lesson Eight: Let the Circle be Open, yet UnbrokenA final session in which we bring our studies to a close and decide how to go forward with our new understanding of Paganism. |
