Course Description
Want to become a massage therapist? According to the latest career polls, massage therapy job opportunities are poised to grow at double the rate of other jobs. This practice-based course will teach you everything about the massage therapy and how to perform those massage techniques. Students will learn the history of massage therapy, methods and types of massages, practice-oriented massage techniques, ethics of massage therapy, how to set up massage business, massage marketing tips, etc.

This course offers a learning platform for massage therapy students and practitioners to develop and enhance skills in applying massage techniques, such as Hot Stone Massage, Foot Massage, Back Massage, Relaxing Hands and Arms Massage, and Fur massage to name a few. If you are interested in learning the massage therapy or upgrading your massage skills, this course will exceed your expectation by making you an expert in massage therapy.
Course Requirements
This course will not require you to have previous experience in any particular area but you should have a high school reading level. No books will be required.
Course Goals
· The history of massage therapy from tradition Eastern massage to modern Western massage.
· The basics of human anatomy and physiology as it applies to massage therapy.
· The types of massages that can be used for complete relaxation, to cure illness, and to heal.
· Traditional Indian, Japanese, Chinese, Persian, Hawaiian, Thai, and Roman massage methods.
· Types of massages, such as Barefoot Deep Tissue Massage, Deep Muscle Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Foot or Sole Massage, ,Soft Tissue Massage, and Scalp Massage.
· Massage methods such as trigger massage, chair massage, fur massage, etc.
· Massage techniques that can be used as alternative treatments for arthritis and sleep disorders, back pain and headache.
· Specific massage techniques that will help reduce menstrual pain and will keep the expectant mother healthy during pregnancy.
· Massage therapy for babies.
· Eco-friendly massage practices.
· The ethics of a massage therapy business and enhancing image and profession.
· How to set up a successful massage therapy business.
· Frequently asked questions about a massage therapist.
Course Materials
All course materials are provided in this class. There is no need to buy additional resources. A suggested reading list is provided as well as links to free published sources.
Grading Policy
Each lesson will include a written and practice assignment that will directly apply what you have learned. A brief 25 pt. quiz will follow each lesson. Students will successfully complete this course with 70% or better.
