Course Description

Babysitting is a great way to make money and have fun playing with kids, but there is more to know than tic tac toe and the Itsy Bitsy Spider.Babysitting is a big responsibility. It is important to understand the business and the safety issues, as well as a little about child development.  A thorough understanding of these issues can help make you more marketable to potential clients.

                               Additionally, you can feel more secure and comfortable when watching children.  Babysitting 101 prepares caretakers for part time child care positions, such as watching children after school, mother-helper job, weekend babysitting positions and watching younger siblings at home.  The basic skills, need to knows, and helpful information is covered, including safety, marketing, games, and activities. Join today for the parents, the kids, and most of all, for yourself!

Course Requirements

Successful completion of this class requires active communication, including email correspondence, assignments, tests, and class forums.
Turning in assignments in a timely manner is vital to showing the responsibility and professionalism needed in babysitting.
Tests must receive a 75% or better to pass. In certian cases, test can be retaken. Ask your instructor for more details if this situation occurs.
Extra credit can be gain through case study submission.

This course depends heavily upon your activity and involvement. You are expected communicate regularly and participate in all activities and discussions

Understanding and defining interest, direction and motivation for having a babysitting job
Understanding and defining past experience and necessary experience for babysitting
Have the ability to solve problems and make safe and appropriate decisions while babysitting
Have the ability to prepare nutritious snacks and meals
Understand appropriate sanitation and safety procedures in preparing meals
Be a role model for children by practicing a lifestyle of healthy activity and behaviors
Have the ability to design creative and educational activities

assignments: 30%
tests: 30%

This course also offers a certificate that you can share with families you baby sit or plan to baby sit for. You can list it on your resume to show your dedication to safe and educated sitting.

About The Instructor

Jill Chasse had been the president of the Babysitters Club of Essex County, NJ in high school. She successfully carried on the babysitting business for 5 years, managing families across two counties and 15 towns, ranging from newborn through 10 year old children. She has been a nanny, a preschool teacher, a Child Development Center director, and a substitute teacher.

As an adult, Dr. Chasse tutors teens and preteens on babysitting basics, shares creative ideas from her time as a Preschool Director, and helps babysitters and children have fun together!

She currently lives in the DC area with her family and works in maternal/child program management.
