Behavior Management for Residential Childcare Workers will give you practical, tested ways of controlling difficult behaviors. You can learn how to STOP bad behavior in its tracks; and--which is just as important--how to facilitate positive change in the lives of residents. Study with someone who has served as a houseparent, a counselor, a program director, and as an executive director of a child care agency and learn the difference between behavior management and behavior modification; how to use, not misuse power and authority; five basic principles of behavior management, including how behaviors can be overtly and covertly taught; how to change behaviors by changing antecedents, staff triggers, and environmental triggers. The STOP method of shared control is introduced; and students will learn how to recognize, reward, and reinforce good behavior.
