Upon completing How to Start a Rewarding Career in Substitute Teaching , you should understand the substitute teacher's role in the classroom and know the job requirements, qualifications, and compensation for substitute teachers in your location. You should also know the qualities of an effective sub and demonstrate knowledge of the following key skills: *Manage the application process, *Prepare for the interview and answer common questions, *Prepare for class, *Apply basic classroom management techniques, *Handle various classroom discipline problems, *Write useful reports to the teacher and *Maintain the classroom space in proper order.
This class requires short writing assignments, so students must read and write at least a high school level. No previous teaching experience is required. This course consists of six lessons, approximately 700 to 800 words each, with related short writing assignments. To measure your understanding of the material, there are two quizzes of the true/false variety. Each lesson also includes related course components, such as website links, documents, discussion forums, class surveys, and class polls.
Instructor Jason Castellucci has over 10 years of experience in education, training, and instructional writing. He is currently working as a substitute teacher in Ventura County, California and an instructor in high school program for under-represented and at-risk youth. He also has over 9 years experience in providing community education and leadership in public recreational programs.
