Course Lessons
Lesson 1: Introduction to Biology
In this first lesson we will go over the definitions, history, and the importance of the study of biology.
Lesson 2: The Chemistry Involved
In this second lesson we will begin our study of Biology with Basic Chemistry, Chemical Basis of Life, and Characteristics of Living Things.
Lesson 3: The Biology of Cells
We will focus on cell biology. Topics include the structure of living organisms, positions on the food chain, the flow of the ecosystem, and the process of the cell cycle.
Lesson 4: Classic Genetics
This lesson deals with the process of Genetics and the occurrence of irregularities. We will also cover the history from Charles Darwin to the controversies surrounding cloning.
Lesson 5: Molecular Genetics
This lesson we will break down the genetic code and understand how genetics occurs; and understand the important roles that molecular geneticists play in obtaining DNA for analysis, cell culture, and isolating DNA
Lesson 6: Principles of Evolution
Facts about theories, and controversies surrounding "Evolution". Topics will include what biologists really think, the studies of Darwin, natural selection, and the contemporary beliefs on evolution.
Lesson 7: The Origin of Evolution and Life: Human Evolution and the Diversity of Life
We follow the thoughts on evolution beginning with the ideas of medieval times, and to the theories of Immanuel Kant and the quintessential naturalists: Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace.
Lesson 8: Plant Diversity and Reproduction
In this eighth lesson we examine the Plant Kingdom. Topics will include the classification systems and plant reproduction.
Lesson 9: Plant Form and Function
In this ninth lesson we will examine plant structure and function. Topics include plant cells and tissue types, plant transport, various plant activities, lifecycles, and biotechnology of plants.
Lesson 10: Animal Diversity
In this tenth lesson we will now focus on the Animal Kingdom. Topics will include classifications, definitions, and animal phyla and classes.
Lesson 11: Animal Form and Function
We go into the structure and activities of animals including: nutrition, respiration, circulation, excretion, homeostasis, coordination of the chemical and nervous systems, motility, and reproduction
Lesson 12: Ecology
This lesson focuses on the study of ecology. Topics in this final lesson will include contemporary ecological issues, world population facts, ecosystems and biomes, and conservation
