Course Description My friend Sir Isaac Newton and I would like you all to learn something about calculus. Together we will introduce the basic concepts of calculus in a fun and exciting way. While not meant to be the clone of a credited university or AP highschool course, it will teach the basics of calculus. Beginning with the history of why calculus was developed, Sir Isaac and I go on to talk about the limit, continuity, the derivative and the integral in a way that even you non math people can appreciate. For those of you that want more depth, there are some extra exercises to challege your abilities. MATH IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT SUBJECTS AROUND, AND CALCULUS IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT AREAS OF MATH. LET'S HAVE SOME FUN AND LEARN SOME MATH. Course Lessons | | Lesson 1: What is Calculus? The lesson contains a brief introduction to calculus, including a brief history of the mathematics preceeding the invention of calculus and the practical reasons that generated its creation.
| Lesson 2: This is Really the LimitA non analytic view of the limit | Lesson 3: Continuity; That Connected FeelingOne of the most important uses of the limit is to help one decide if a function is continuous. The basic ideas of continuity are explored in this lesson. | Lesson 4: The Derivative; The Ups and Downs of CalculusThe derivative is one of the major areas of study in calculus. This chapter will describe the basic properties of the derivative, explore some of its uses, and briefly see how to find the derivative of a function. | Lesson 5: The Integral; The True Area of CalculusAn introduction into the antiderivative, also known as the indefinite integral, and the definite integral which gives us the area under a curve. | Lesson 6: The Fundamental Theorem of Calculus: Tying Together Loose EndsWe now join all of the ideas we have seen to this point and look at the fundamental theorem of calculus. | Optional Certificates Awarded - Certificate of Attendance
- Certificate of Merit
This is not meant to be an academically accredited course. I am hoping that students will attend and appreciate the course. The certificate of merit would be given to all students who complete the course. In addition to the standard Certificate of Course Completion, Merit Awards may be issued by the instructor at his/her own discretion and are based on student achievement. Merit awards also incur an additional $30.00 processing fee that covers the customization, printing, and delivery of the award, as well as access to the UniversalClass™ Portfolio Service that documents your achievements online. Official Merit Awards have a serial number that verifies the authenticity of the award (great for employers to verify your achievement).
