Class Syllabus: Blueprint Reading for Machinists

The Blueprint Reading for Machinists course is a comprehensive guide to interpreting drawings commonly found in manufacturing. This is the 'short course' of 'need to know' information for blueprint reading in machine trades. Beginning with the background of blueprints, looking at the types of lines used on a drawing, and how parts are shown in different views. Dimensioning and Tolerancing are explained, as well as an introduction to Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
This course is intended as an introduction to understanding blueprints and being able to visualize and understand the intent of the designer or draftsman as presented in a blueprint. The first step in making quality parts or assemblies is interpreting the drawing correctly and applying the given information to the final product.
Completing this course will enhance the learner's ability to gain employment in a manufacturing/machining area and/or increase their chances of advancement in related areas.

To enable the learner to interpret drawings commonly found in a manufacturing/machining environment. Understanding of the concepts of blueprint reading can enable the learner to attain a new position requiring blueprint reading skills.
Course Materials
All materials required for the Blueprint Reading for Machinists course are contained within the course. A student may utilize drawings found in their workplace as reference to concepts presented in the course. CAUTION: Do not remove drawings or blueprints from the workplace without the express permission of
supervisory staff or management. Doing so could be a violation of company policy regarding information dissemination and/or employee ethics.
Grading Policy
An accumulative grade of 80% on lesson reviews (quizzes) is required for consideration of course certificate.
Receiving a score below 70% on any single quiz , the student will be given the opportunity to retake the quiz.
All assignments will be reviewed and graded based on the points for each assignment.
All review quiz and lesson assignment grades are not official until reviewed and updated by the instructor.
