Students who complete this class will be exposed to a wide variety of non-traditional avenues of math practice. They will develop a personal collection of activity ideas suitable for the ages and stages of the children in their lives. Adult students will learn math magic tricks, strategies for modifying traditional games and activities to focus them on math practice, and active ideas to capture the interest of active children. The goal of this class is to help parents and teachers find alternatives to worksheet or flashcard-driven math practice. Parents and teachers will enjoy these ideas to take the drudgery out of math practice! You can turn math into a game with your children and forget about those boring drill activities. There are tons of ideas here for you to try, from magic and puzzles to active games that will appeal to the busiest youngsters. Skills covered range from number recognition and counting all the way up to statistics and probability concepts. There is a heavy emphasis on memorization of basic math facts, since that seems to be a troublesome area for so many. Drop on in and check it out-the first day of class is FREE! Enroll today! Making Math Fun! is intended for adults assisting children with math practice. There are no assignments/problems for kids. The only requirements are that students have a reading level of approximately grade 7 and an interest in discovering new ways to work with kids and math skills. There are eight class lessons for students to read, and each has an associated quiz and assignment. Completion of these is required for your class grade.

Instructor Sandy Fleming teaches several learning courses for UniversalClass. Her resume includes one year of substitute teaching experience, six years classroom experience, and 20 years as a private tutor serving all ages/specializing in serving special needs students and troubled readers.
