Dog Experts Intermediate is a continuing education class for anyone interested in dog care, and setting up a Pet Sitting Business. This class offers an in-depth look at behaviors and training, pet sitting cooperatives, First Aid, Starting a local Pet sitting business, and grooming basics. This course will be a hands on course and students will be required to utilize their training to benefit a dog that they own, or that they can borrow for the class. (This is a short assignment; the dog is not required to live with you.) Anyone wishing to go onto the Advanced Course, must complete all assignments in this course, and have a passing grade overall.

Students will be given a scenario concerning a behavior and will write an essay pertaining to the correct training procedure to break the dog of the behavior while maintaining a happy dog. Students will learn to read the labels of dog foods and be able to discern which contain harmful chemicals and which is best for a variety of breeds of dogs. Students will understand the process of setting up a Pet Sitting Coop within their neighborhood. First Aid will be discussed, and students will be required to spend a minimum of 2 hours at a local veterinary clinic, observing general practice. (Students are not required to assist or watch surgeries). Students will learn how to set up a Pet Sitting Business, and will submit a business plan as part of their final. Each student will be required to groom a dog following the basics outlined, and will submit before and after photos. If you do not own a pet, you may have to borrow a neighbor s, or contact the local Humane Society, and offer a free grooming for one dog. By the end of this course the student will be proficient in setting up a Pet Sitting business, making appointments, handling first aid in an emergency, basic grooming, and understanding feed labels and analysis. Be A Dog Expert - Intermediate will expand on Behaviors and Training, and introduce Analyzing Foods, Organizing a Pet Sitting Coop, More First Aid in Emergencies, Starting a local Pet Sitting Business, and Grooming Basics. This course is a hands on course, and it will be necessary for students to have access to a local veterinarian clinic and either a pet of their own, or a pet they can borrow for basic grooming.

  1. Behaviors and Training - This lesson outlines the genetic and environmental predisposition to behaviors and how training through positive reinforement can negate these behaviors.
  2. What is My Dog Eating? - This lesson enlightens students concerning labels on dog foods, chemicals to beware, and how to analyze dog foods.
  3. Organizing A Pet Sitting Co-op - This lesson will teach how to organize and efficiently run a pet sitting co-op. Charts and rules are discussed.
  4. Emergency First Aid For Dogs - This lesson covers a variety of emergencies, and how to address them. Also covered are what to put in a first aid kit for animal care, and zoonoses;diseases transmitted from animals to humans.
  5. Pet Sitting For Fun and Profit - This lesson assists students in setting up a profitable pet sitting service. From advertising to special "tips" that bring customers back over and over, this lesson will get you started.
  6. Basic Dog Grooming - This lesson will walk students through maintenance grooming for their pets. It covers equipment used, and bathing procedure.
