Spelling is one of the most problematic areas of the English grammar mechanics that there is. People of all ages and levels of education have problems with it. That's why computers were designed with spellchecks...however, even spellchecks don't decipher homonyms for you and computers aren't able to walk into your class room and do your assignments, exams or writings for you. Therefore, you are reliant upon your genuine spelling skills. Have no fear though, because even if you have had problems in the past with spelling, this course will truly help you. This course simplifies spelling by reducing it primarily to the four main rules: 'i before e,' 's or es in plurals,' 'adding, dropping, keeping and doubling consonants in word endings,' and 'homonyms'. Each of those rules are looked at in-depth to ensure you understand them, providing substantial examples. Then, you are given the opportunity to expand your understanding of spelling by looking at other rules that make your long and short sounds. Finally, you are given a list of some of the most commonly used and problematic words in the English vocabulary and given tips for remembering their correct spellings. This course covers all that in seven well-written lessons: Introduction to Spelling, 'I before E,' 'S and ES in Plurals,' 'Adding, Keeping, Changing and Doubling Consonants in Word Endings,' 'Homonyms,' 'Other Rules for Long and Short Sounds,' and 'Problematic Words.' This course is taught by a college writing instructor. It is excellent for homeschoolers, GED students, ESL, college students, vocational applicants, employees and those wishing to refresh their spelling.
