This course is a stand alone course, not a program or a program for certification. It is a supplementary class for those interested in or needed assistance in these areas.

American Experience-U.S. Study is a unit study class geared for homeschoolers or for children and teachers looking for more information about America. In this course, students are going to learn everything expected in the Education Standards for studies on the United States. Exploring with Map Skills, Trip planning, Individual State Facts, Mathematical distances, History, Spelling, Language Arts, Science, movies, printout activities, interactive map work, resource links, and much more!

Students can study at their own pace and go to the links in the course as they are placed. They will need supplies for this course. First being a printer, ink (black will do) and paper. There will be (at the time of this printing) almost 100 pages to print out and complete. These activities will become a folder of the United States, Map Skills, Geography, and much more. Students will be able to use this reference and learning guide for years to come. A United States Diary/Journal-of sorts. A folder, or binder to add pages to will be needed as well as glue, and crayons or colored pencils or markers, depending on the grade of paper they are using in their folder. Begin collectiong pictures and articles from old magazines, newspapers, old books, etc. as they will be needed in the clip art lessons. Go to the links in the course as they are placed. Do not be sidetracked once there; you will be brought back to them later, in the order it needs to be learned.

Instructor Jill Manzoni teaches several other courses for UniversalClass. She has college degrees, and higher education certificates in Health, Environments, Child Development, Psychology, Social Sciences, Theology, and Art. She is approaching a half century of age, and has children ranging from 8-29, and grandchildren from 2-13. All of them were home schooled for many years.


This course offers 1.0 CEUs upon successful completion. You may take this online course with or without CEU documentation. An online and hard-copy Certificate of Course Completion displaying your coursework and CEUs earned is included with the CEU Option.   1. Begin Your Journey - Begin a journey around the United States. Learn how all 50 States work as a team, and what their resources and traditions are. You will also begin to learn about your own state, and the region it is in.
  2. Map Study - In order to understand most of the maps taught in school, you need a course in Maps.
  3. Good Reports - Learn all the elements involved in writing a good report.
  4. Current Events - Learn current events taking place in America.
  5. Regions - Learn the major regions of America, and how they work as a team.
  6. Climates - Learn climates, and how they determine your state agriculture or resources.
  7. Pacific Coast States - Learn more about the states California, Oregon, and Washington State.
  8. South, S. West, Plains, Eastern Regions & more! - The Southwestern US and its features and facts. Then on to the other regions to learn more.
  9. Matching games and activities - Here are a series of matching games, activities and learning fun.
  10. Colonies and Government - Learn the Original 13 Colonies, why and how they were formed.
  11. 50 States - Each state plays an enormous role in the United State team. Learn more about each individual state and it's facts.
  12. Patriotism - What does patriotism mean and why should it be important to us?
