Course Description
Caring for Children
If you're a parent or child care professional (or want to become one), if you want to improve your child care skills, this course will teach you how to care for the children in your life with confidence and ease.
You'll learn how to keep children safe, how to create an effective learning environment in your home, how to encourage healthy habits, and how to promote physical activity. You will discover techniques to help children communicate, solve problems, develop social skills, and build self-esteem. You'll also learn quick and easy ways to give yourself time to re-connect and meet your own needs.
Course Lessons
Lesson 1-Keeping Children Safe
Lesson 1 -- Keeping Children Safe In this lesson, we'll explore ways of childproofing your home, to ensure safety and awareness of possible dangers. We'll discuss creating safety rules to include fire and emergency preparation and drills.
Lesson 2-Healthy Children
What is a state of health? Being in good health means being in a state of well being, healthy physically, mentally, and socially, not just being without illness. One part of our being affects all other parts.
Lesson 3-Creating a Learning Environment
In today's lesson, we will discuss ways of organizing areas that encourage learning. We will explore how to use appropriate equipment and materials to encourage play and discovery.
Lesson 4-Physical Development
In today's lesson, we will discuss ways of promoting children's physical development. We will examine and learn how to reinforce and encourage physical development through activities and interactions.
Lesson 5-Cognitive Growth
In today's lesson, we will discuss cognitive development and ways of providing opportunities for cognitive development throughout the day.
Lesson 6-Communication
Being able to communicate is vital to our ability to relate to others and our environment. Our relationships with others depend on how well we can understand and respond to what they have to say and how well they understand us.
Lesson 7-Creativity
What does it mean to be creative? Does it mean you have to be an artist or a musician? No, but we may sometimes confuse creativity with talent.
Lesson-8- Self-Esteem
Our self-esteem is important to our success in life. As we grow, the experiences we have form our feelings about ourselves. Throughout our lives, we learn to value who we are and what we are able to do.
Lesson 9-Social Skills
We use social skills everyday. When we let someone into our line at the store, when we wait our turn to speak in a conversation, or when we say please and thank you to others, we are using social skills.
Lesson 10-Discipline
I'd be willing to bet that you've tried to figure out how to take some of the stress out of caring for kids? Have you noticed that some of your discipline techniques are not working? Children have to be taught discipline.
Lesson 11-Finding Time for Yourself
Family life has changed quite a bit over the last few generations. In today's society, there are an increasing number of single parents as well as a larger number of families where both parents work.
Lesson 12-Staying Orgainized
Today we will try to help you bring much of what you have learned into practice. We will show you how to organize this information for practical use.
