Course Description
Breastfeeding is the most natural and healthy way to feed your child, but parents often need some support and education. This class is intended as a general guide and overview. Being informed creates self confidence and helps you make important choices for your family. This course gives you the information, research, support and tools to help create a healthy and happy breastfeeding relationship.
This class is appropriate for:
parents or expecting parents (very early parenting is important even with your baby still in the womb)
childcare providers (is your daycare center breastfeeding friendly? Do you know how to store milk if one of your families has a breastfed baby? Breastfed babies may also react differently to bottles and naps. Be informed! Be more marketable with a Breastfeeding Certificate)
family and friends (nursing moms need a lot of support; learning about breastfeeding and encouraging them to continue is helpful for the whole family)
and anyone that deals with nursing moms and babies (teachers, neighbors, nannies, etc.).
Course Lessons
Lesson 1: How to Breastfeed Joyfully
Many people decide they want to nurse when they are pregnant, but after the baby is born, they change their minds. It is not as simple as you may envision. This lesson helps you learn HOW to nurse and understand the physiology behind making milk.
Lesson 2: The Benefits of Breastfeeding your Child
Not everyone can breastfeed, but for those who choose to try, there are many benefits for both mother and child. We will learn about them in this lesson.
Lesson 3: Pumping and Storing
Many moms go back to work, but want to continue giving their babies breast milk. This lesson helps explain more about milk expression and storage.
Lesson 4: Nursing Older Babies
Older babies (over 6 months) have their own blessings and challenges. This lesson shares some of the things you may run into when breastfeeding an older baby.
Lesson 5: Possible Difficulties
This lesson addresses the problems and issues you may run into while breast feeding, including health and wellness, and legal issues.
