Teach Library Skills 2 taught by Jill Manzoni shows students the easy way to remember the classes and categories of the library system, so you can navigate any library like a pro. Students will practice alphabetical and numerical ordering as they explore deeper into Spine Labels, Call Numbers, the Classifications-Fiction, History, Zoology, Health and others. They will learn to classify by using names with and without numbers.The course also covers counting down from categories into the sub-categories and takes a further look into History, Math and Science and other Classifications.

Students will be assigned lessons to read, and links to visit along with assignments. There will be class polls, a survey, a quiz, and a final test. Each lesson read, quiz taken and final test have a defined value ranging from 5-50 points each. These points will be accumulated throughout the duration of the course, and the final score will be the resulting total.

Course Description

This course teaches you how to navigate the library easily, and with confidence. You will learn the system of shelving, book classifications, and all the other important components to library efficiency. We will go into depth on subjects like History, Science, Health, Math, Zoology and much more. In addition to the many learning skills in the course, with your enrollment, you will receive a free copy of our beginners course Learn How to Teach Library Skills. Remember, if you are a student age 13 or under, an adult must enroll you. This class will meet all the education requirements and eduation standards of the elementary student.

Lesson 1: Explore The Need To Learn Library Skills

Although a library media specialist with certification better at times teaches library instruction, you will find that we have made it possible for you to develop the background necessary to develop a program of skills and experience yourself.

Lesson 2: Why You Need THIS Library Course

Learn why just going to the library or looking information up on the internet are not enough. Then learn what you can do about it.

Lesson 3: Learning The System

In this lesson we will begin to teach you a few basics. We will gather and sort some books to give you new ideas.

Lesson 4: Call Numbers

Learn what all those numbers stand for on the spines of your books.

Lesson 5: Shelf Arrangement

Learn the different classifications.

Lesson 6: Classification Of Books

Classification of books depends on the type of library you are in. Learn what type your library uses.

Lesson 7: Book Spines

The simplest and quickest way to begin teaching shelf arrangement is to set up this learning center.

Lesson 8: Alphabetical and Numerical

Practice alphabetical and numerical ordering as you explore deeper into Spine Labels, Call Numbers, the Classifications-Fiction, History, Zoology, Health and others. Learn to classify by using names with and without numbers.

Lesson 9: Two Library Systems?

There are two systems of arrangement in libraries. With lots of activities to do, you will learn what the second is, where and how it is used, and the differences from the Dewey System.

Lesson 10: Memorization of Dewey System

Practice your memorization skills in this lesson, with this easy to remember saying about classifications of a library.

Lesson 11: Dewey System on the Net

Many websites also use the Dewey Decimal System as their foundation. We will explore a few in this lesson.

Lesson 12: Important Sub-Categories

Counting down from categories into the sub-categories. A further look into History, Math and Science and other Classifications.

Lesson 13: Lesson Final

The "Final Test" is taken from the information you have learned from the lessons and assignments.

Once you have submitted your lessons and assignments, and taken the polls and surveys, you will receive your Certificate of Attendance. After each lesson, post your “newly found learning’s” in the forums and we will issue you an extra Certificate of Class Participation. Achieve a 95% or better on your tests, and you will receive a Certificate of Academic Excellence. If we feel that you have shown extra initiative, we will also issue a Certificate of Merit. We will supply you with a letter of reference, upon request.

In addition to the standard Certificate of Course Completion, Merit Awards may be issued by the instructor at his/her own discretion and are based on student achievement. Merit awards also incur an additional $30.00 processing fee that covers the customization, printing, and delivery of the award, as well as access to the UniversalClass™ Portfolio Service that documents your achievements online. Official Merit Awards have a serial number that verifies the authenticity of the award (great for employers to verify your achievement).
