Beginning Weight Training with Instructor Joann Bally is a course which will introduce students to the basic concepts of weight training as a means to build and shape muscle, and improve your health and vitality. This course will provide a suggested routine, and the student will be expected to work out for 4 weeks to test out the principles to complete this course. The average exerciser will look and feel better through this course which can serve as a foundation for those who want to go further with bodybuilding or weight training.
This course has no prerequisites, but you are advised to check with your doctor before starting this or any exercise program. While designed for beginners, the class will also be helpful for those who have worked out without guidance and without success in the past. It is recommended that men and women be 18 years of age or older, and there is no upper age limit, as long as your doctor approves. This course is self-paced (course begins on student's own timetable). This course will be based on a pass/fail grading scale, and the Instructor's specific grading policy will be presented in the class syllabus. For students who strive for course completion or other documentation might achieve several offered certificates based on academic performance, attendance and participation.

Course Description
A weight lifting exercise program can improve your health and vitality, as well as enhancing your physique. This course will show you how to build and/or define your muscles, and what to do if your goal is to lose fat, gain muscle, or just look and feel better. Various principles of weight training are explained, as well as how to apply them for bodybuilding success. You will be able to work out at home or in a gym, with free weights or machines. A model full-body routine is presented, which you can use as-is or modify. Specific exercises are recommended and described. Weight training can benefit men and women of all ages. This course will get you started working out with weights for general fitness, and you can use it as a foundation if you later want to work on advanced bodybuilding. The instructor, Joann Bally, is a personal trainer and Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist.

Lesson 1: Building Muscle
Introduction. Why your goal should be to build muscles. What is muscle toning? What equipment you will need. Cautions.
Lesson 2: Working Out--Sets and Reps
This lesson explains what number of sets and repetitions work best for bodybuilding.
Lesson 3: Other Elements of Fitness
Learn how stretching and aerobic/cardiovascular exercise fit into your bodybuilding program, as well as how and why to warm up.
Lesson 4: Fine Points of Weight Training

Lesson 5: Say Hello to Your Muscles
Learn the names and functions of the major muscles involved in bodybuilding.

Get ready to start training. Learn what works and what doesn't, and what to expect as far as results.
