Course Description

Natural Round Pen Work is a must for horse owners, from the beginning professional to the seasoned vet.  You will learn effective and correct round pen procedures laid out in an easy to understand step by step exercise.  This course is designed to build a solid foundation for you and your horse.  If you already train horses this series of exercises can be incorporated into any training method.  You will learn to take an unhandled horse through all the steps in this course and turn them into gentle and willing partners. 

 

The objectives of this course are to teach all students the history of the horse, communication with the your horse using a language your horse will understand, assessing the problem horse to come up with the best way to fix the problem, how to use the round pen in easy step by step exercises, how to get your horse to move his feet, how to become the alpha in your herd, and starting your horse under saddle.

 

*This is a hands on course and it is recommended that you have a horse or borrow a horse to work with.  If you do not have a horse and you are looking to just study training concepts then this course will give you a better understanding of the round pen process since it is broken down in to simple format.


Instructor Mary Johnson runs a Horse Rescue called Horse Spirit Rescue in Washington State so she's a natural to teach Taming Mustangs. The course will give exceptional insight and knowledge to the student on how to tame and train wild mustangs. Students will learn how the horse thinks and how to make a horses life easier through natural horsemanship and relationship training.

This is a hands-on course and it's recommended that the student have a horse or borrow a horse to work with. If you do not have a horse and you are looking to just study training this course will give you a better understanding of the round pen process since it is broken down in to simple format.


This course offers 1.0 CEUs upon successful completion. You may take this online course with or without CEU documentation. An online and hard-copy Certificate of Course Completion displaying your coursework and CEUs earned is included with the CEU Option. Course Lessons

  1. The History of the Horse - In this lesson we will learn where the mustang originated from.
  2. Understanding the way Horses think - We will discuss how our horses think and act as prey animals and as herd animals.
  3. How to use your Body Language - In this lesson we will discuss how to use your body language to your advantage.
  4. Assessment of the Problem Horse - This lesson will teach you how to assess the problem and figure out what category it falls under.
  5. Moving your Horses Feet - Exercise #1 -- Learning how to move your horses feet is a step by step exercise to teach you the safest way to move your horses feet.
  6. Determining the Direction of the Horse - Exercise #2 -- Determining the direction of your horse will teach you how to turn your horse in the round pen.
  7. Your horse and inside turns - Exercise 3 -- Now you will learn how to get your horse to acknoledge you as alpha by using the inside turn.
  8. Teaching your horse to stop when asked - Exercise 4 -- Teaches your horse to stop with the whoa cue.
  9. Desensitizing your horse - Exercise 5 -- You will learn how to properly desensitize your horse
