Music teacher Brenda Blanchard is offering this basic course on music reading and keyboard skills. At the end of her course students will accomplish 7 goals: 1. Students should be able to read all kinds of notes, identify the notes on the staff without difficulty. 2. Master the notes and kinds of notes. 3. Know and understand the different hand positions. 4. Have a working knowledge of the different musical terms like for example allegro and adagio or andante. 5. Understand the meaning of intervallic reading. 6. Memorized the different finger numbers and know by heart. 7. Pass the final examination by submitting their own recording of a song which has been assigned to each one in the class.

Course Description

Have you ever started playing piano but got stumped and frustrated with the theory? Then you've come to the right class. This course introduces the keyboard skills and fundamentals you will need to become a successful pianist. It provides for a step-by-step explanation on how to play the piano. If you need help with the written theory and you want to learn more about how to read and write notes. All you need to do is to enroll in this class. This course includes activities that will help you use the musical alphabet to read and write notes on the staff, identify intervals, and write sharps and flats. Not only does this course emphasize note reading but will help you develop a keen intelligent understanding of the musical notes and alphabet. In no time you will be playing the piano or keyboard and most especially read and play any music as you appreciate it!

Lesson 1: The Grand Staff, Different Note Names and How to Identify them on the Staff

The lesson shall help the student gain an in depth knowledge and mastery of the different note names as they learn to locate where they are on the keyboard and on the piano as well.

Lesson 2: Movement, Time Value and Types of Notes

The student should be provided with the understanding of how notes move on the staff. This lesson aims to explain the movement of notes on the staff and the types of notes and number of beats each note receives.

Lesson 3: Understanding the Time and the Key Signature

It is important that the student understands the time and key signature. Learning to read notes and understanding the time and key signatures in music will make a good musical foundation in every student.

Lesson 4: Dynamics, Repeat Sign and the Different Rests

In order to be a good piano player, one must follow the dynamic markings and watch out for them in a piece.

Lesson 5: Articulation

This lesson aims to explain and describe the different ways of articulation used in piano playing so that the student will have the opportunity to learn and use them properly and in order for the student to become well rounded players.

Lesson 6: TEMPO

This lesson shall explain what tempo is in music and help the student understand the importance of tempo and how to observe it while practicing.
