Many people are acquainted with some elements of composition, but not the necessary skills to succeed in a college level course. Why waste $200.00 - $400.00 on a college composition course and fail because then you will have to pay again to retake the course for your degree.

When you can take this course for a fraction of the cost and succeed in this course and in a college composition. The focus of this course is to provide the student with the necessary skills needed to accomplish writing effective college essays.

Course Requirements

Requirements and Papers: MLA Format, double-spaced typed and papers can be rewritten a second time, which is due on the thirteenth week class meeting. You may choose any historical period for film, plays, short stories, and poems.
Papers: 1. Informal Analysis of a personal experience (3-5 pgs) 2. Compare & Contrast short stories or poems, and/or etc. (3-5 pgs) 3. Critical Analysis (5-7 pgs) 4. Argumentative Paper a position and prove it (3-5 pgs) 5. Research paper (8-25 pgs) 6. Journals (15-20) 7. Mid-term 8. Final Exam

Course Goals

The focus of this composition course is to prepare students for what is expected of them in a colleges and university composition course. The focus will be on the writing process as a whole. The process of writing includes invention, and free writing, another aspect is organization shelling, outlining, drafting, and revisions. Also, another focus will be on areas of organization, clarity, and supporting evidence for your thesis. Students will become acquainted with many facets of the writing process including the following: developing a composing technique; developing the skills, attitudes, and character of a critical thinker; testing and evaluating ideas; and using standard written English effectively.

Composition is a writing class, but it is also a writing class that is research driven, which means you will need to do your research in order to effectively write your paper. Almost every college and university requires a student to take two-composition course for a degree. These courses require certain genre papers that are required and analysis papers, which each paper contains specific elements. This course will teach you the necessary skills to survive a college writing course and feel more confident in your writing skills and to become a successful scholar.

Grading Policy

Grading: A 90-100 B 80-89 C 70-79 D 60-69 F 59>

Grading Criteria for Essay:
An A answer would have these characteristics:
-A thorough understanding of the theorist/s or terminology in question
-Complete differentiation from other theories or terms
-Demonstrated ability to define, explain and give an example of two concerning the theory or term/s
-A complete analysis outlining what you would do and why in terms covered in the course
-An organized answer with a logical flow (thesis, support, close) Clear expression of thought
-Virtually error-free (expression, grammar, usage)

A B answer would have these characteristics:
-A solid understanding of the theorist/s or terminology in question
-A good, but not necessarily all-encompassing explication/answer
-Clear expression of thought
-Some errors, but none that impede comprehension

A C answer would have these characteristics:
-An acceptable understanding of the theorist/s or terminology in question
-Identification of at least the major ideas associated with the question
-Relatively clear expression of thought, although reading may require some patience
-More errors than one would expect, but within tolerable range
-Overall impression: lacks the level of knowledge, interest, and understanding of A or B answers

D and F answer would have these characteristics
-Fundamental misunderstanding of the theorist/s or terminology in question
-Explication is shallow, grossly incomplete, or simply wrong
-Expression is not organized or clear
-Number of errors is unacceptable

Disclaimer

You must satisfy the course requirements and succeed in developing your writing skills and producing college level essays in order to pass this course. If you complete all of these steps in this course, you should have no problem completing a college composition 101 course.
