The purpose of this course is to assist you in learning the skills necessary to support victims of domestic violence. You do not need a college or university degree to offer support. This course is designed for those who are interested in pursuing a career in case aide work, social support work, and community outreach work. It is also here to assist those who are suffering from domestic violence now, and will aide victims in the areas they choose to pursue to end the violence. This is a self-paced course: instructor assistance when needed, and positive feedback on assignments, tests, and quizzes. The importance of posting information in the forum will also be required: this information is the "sharing of learning" which will aid others in areas they may not have gained knowledge in. I know there are many people who feel that they are totally alone: who may think that no one knows what they are going through, and feel that they have no one to turn to or to talk to about their situation. Some of these people are living in domestic abusive relationships. Some feel they cannot get out, and some may feel that they have to stay. I am here to tell you that you are not alone: there are many others who have been in violent relationships, and many who have moved on to live a happy, violence free productive life! This course is for those who wish to learn about THE CYCLE OF ABUSE: WHY WE CHOOSE TO STAY IN ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIPS, PARTNER ABUSE-MAN OR WOMAN, SAME SEX PARTNERS, EMERGENCY OPTIONS, COMPENSATION, POLICING, THE LAW, IMPACTS OF ABUSE, IMPACTS ON THE CHILDREN,and PLANNING YOUR ESCAPE.copyright 2003.
