Course Description
Taming Feral Horses is a must for horse owners, from the beginning professional to the seasoned vet. You will learn effective and correct round pen procedures laid out in an easy to understand step by step exercise. This course is designed to build a solid foundation for you and your horse. If you already train horses this series of exercises can be incorporated into any training method. You will learn to take an unhandled horse through all the steps in this course and turn them into gentle and willing partners. The objectives of this course are to teach all students the history of the horse, communication with the your horse using a language your horse will understand, assessing the problem horse to come up with the best way to fix the problem, how to use the round pen in easy step by step exercises, how to get your horse to move his feet, how to become the alpha in your herd, and starting your horse under saddle.
*This is a hands on course and it is recommended that you have a horse or borrow a horse to work with. If you do not have a horse and you are looking to just study training this course will give you a better understanding of the round pen process since it is broken down in to simple format. Course Requirements
- All the reading material needed for this course is included in the lessons area. You will not be required to purchase any other materials.
- You will need to participate in discussions on training topics.
- You will be required to post atleast one relevant discussion questions per week for participation grade.
- There will be more classes on continuation of training after this course is complete.
- All written material is provided within this course.
- You will also need some basic horse equipment if you are going to work with a horse while taking this course like; halter, lead rope, saddle, saddle blancket, bridle, brushes, hoof picks or anything else that you will be using around your hore. At the beginning of every exercise there will be a list of items needed for that exercise for anyone working with horses during this course.
Course Goals
To help people understand their horse and to make the horses life easier through natural horsemanship and relationship training. To give more insight and knowledge to the student on how to tame and train wild mustangs. To help students develop a more complete understanding of how the horse thinks. It is my goal to provide a comfortable and informative class experience. To provide prompt responses to all questions and comments. Grade all work in a timely manner. Help students through problems that arise in the taming and training process. Course Materials
All written materials needed for this course are provided. There are a few training materials needed for those students that wish to train a horse as the lessons progress.
They are:
Halter,
Lead rope,
Reins,
Saddle,
Bridle,
and any other equipment you want to use around your horse including but not limited to brushes, hoof picks, and blankets.
For the exercises you will need a round pen to work with the horse if you are training a horse while taking this course. The exercises are step by step instruction and have been broken down into small steps, so do not worry you can do this.
Grading Policy
Assignments are graded on spelling, grammar and completeness. All tests and quizzes are a mixture of multiple choice, short answer, essay, and true/false questions. There will be an essay due at the end explaining your understanding of the course and to summerize what you have learned. All tests and assignments may be re-submitted for a higher grade after consultation with the instructor. There are assignments that require you to go out and work with a horse or observe a horse, if you do not have a horse to work with you can ask questions of people that own horses and turn in the lesson by research and observation rather than hands on. The essay due at the end can be either video tape of you working a horse or a written essay, if you don't have a horse to work with turn in an essay explaining what you have learned.
