Course Description

Mediation is the most effective method for resolving workplace, family and business disputes -- quickly and inexpensively. This instructor-led course will teach you:
  • What mediation means
  • How mediation works
  • How a neutral mediator helps people communicate and reach a mutually acceptable agreement

Whether you are a supervisor, human resources manager, attorney, family counselor, teacher, business or community leader, you will learn not only how people behave when they have a conflict. You will also learn:

  • How to shift their mindset from blame to resolution
  • How to take them step-by-step through the 5-stage mediation process
  • How to handle even the most challenging cases

Course Goals

At the end of this course you will know:

  • What is the purpose of mediation, your role as a neutral mediator, the outcome of mediation, and the key benefits of mediation vs litigation.
  • What it takes to become an effective mediator.
  • What are the most powerful strategies and techniques used in mediation.
  • Why people behave the way they do when they have a conflict.
  • How to help people communicate, and shift their focus from the past to the future.
  • The crucial role of power in negotiating an agreement.
  • How to help people negotiate.
  • What to do when their negotiation reaches an impasse.
  • How to draft a clear and durable agreement.
  • How to increase the likelihood that people comply with their mediated agreement.

Course Requirements

To enroll in this class, you don't need any specific experience or education. The only requirement is your motivation to acquire practical mediation and dispute resolution skills that you can apply immediately to your personal and professional life.
