Course Description
This course will demonstrate methods used to solve basic word problems. It is intended for students who needa basic understanding of how to set up and solve word problems that involve numbers, money, money terms, distances, percentages, mixtures and age. This self paced courseprovides step by step guides and links to practice exercises, web resources, and quizzes. This course is perfect for students struggling through word problems in a school environment, preparing for Math tests (such as GED or other college placement exams) or adults needing to improve business related skills.
Course Requirements
This course strongly recommends students already possess some basic math and algebra skills (if needed it is recommended that to learn required math skills students should first complete a math course such as "Math Review" at http://home.universalclass.com/i/crn/7227.htm )
or "Algebra Refresher" at http://universalclass.com/i/crn/7618.htm There is no time limit needed to complete this self paced course. To finish this course requires students to complete all assignments and quizzes and score better than 70% on the final exam.
Course Goals
Upon course completion students will be able to understand and successfully perform basic word problems involving numbers, age, distance, coins, investments and mixtures.

Grading Policy
The course grading system is straight forward: each lesson is connected to an assignment (with between 5-7 practice excercises) and a brief end of the lesson quiz (with between 2 - 5 word problem questions)
These certificates will be issued: A Certificate of Class Participation will be earned when a student visits this class on at least 10 different days A Certificate of Outstanding Achievement will be awarded to students who complete all assignments and lessons in the class. A Certificate of Merit will be earned when students achieve a grade of 85% or better.
