About This Course

This course teaches you basic law. This course will provide the skills which you may utilize to move on to further your training to do legal work on the Internet (such as Transcribe hearings, legal pleadings, interviews, and letters.)

You will learn where American Law came from, its various branches and checks and balances.
Jurisdiction is presented, along with what kind of lawsuit is brought before which kind of court. Alternative dispute resolution is discussed as an option to court venues.
The final section in this course teaches you about civil litigation from "a" to "z," filing a suit, the intervening steps before the hearing, the discovery process, and final judgment.

You will find it fun and informative and even if you never pursue a career in the law fields, it's great information for you, your family and friends since law impacts every aspect of our daily lives.

Course Requirements

You will need a good English dictionary and a legal dictionary would be helpful, though you can find most of the terms you will need on the Internet search engines.

Course Goals

A good working knowledge of the legal system in this country for personal benefit, for vocational training to find work in a law office, or legal department of a business, or pursue opportunities for legal transcription work available on the Internet. The student may continue training with specialized law (type of practice), and with actual legal transcription, a great career step.

Course Materials

A PC allowing relative fast Internet exploration, a good English dictionary, and a Legal Terms dictionary might be helpful.

Grading Policy

Most of the information presented will have a quiz you will do on-line with immediate results. You grade yourself, score it, striving for an 80% before moving to the next chapter. You will also have some on-line assignments. You are encouraged to do those as they deal with Internet research and are interesting reading.
