Course Description
Geometry Class for High School (second semester) is a continuation of my first semester geometry course.
The SECOND SEMESTER topics to be covered in this class:
SIMILAR POLYGONS
RIGHT TRIANGLES
CIRCLES
CONSTRUCTIONS
AREAS AND VOLUMES OF SOLIDS
COORDINATE and ANALYTICAL GEOMETRY
In the United States most State Boards of Education require completion of the first and second semesters of Geometry for graduation from a public or private high school. This is the second semester of Geometry.
This Geometry course (second semester) is taught by a class "A" state certified math teacher. The textbook required for the class is approved by most State Boards of Education.
Course Requirements
The student should have already successfully completed Algebra 1 (both semesters) and Geometry (first semester). The student or parent should have good skills using a Word processor, email, internet links, and a basic PAINT program.
There is a required textbook. The price should be between $20 and $50, depending on the condition. The information for purchasing the book will be sent to the student after registering for the class.
Course Goals
The student should desire a good knowledge of Geometry which will include proving theorems, finding congruent polygons, calculating the areas and volumes of polygons and polyhedrons, solving for the parts of right triangles, finding the measurements of circles (arcs, sectors, chords, secants, tangents, central angles and inscribed angles), and understanding the use of algebra in analytical geometry.
The class will prepare them for Algebra 2 and Trigonometry.
Course Materials
There is a required textbook. The instructor will provide the student with the name and directions for purchasing the book after they join the class. The book should cost less than $50, including the shipping. A compass (not navigational) and protractor will be needed also.
The student must have an active email address. The student is expected to check their email after each assignment or test submission. The student's assignment or test score and the instructor's comments will be contained in the email.
Grading Policy
Each lesson will contain 1 to 3 assignments. There are at least 30 lessons and 6 tests. The assignments will be graded daily and at the end of each of the chapters a test will be given. Test scores of less than 75% must be retaken before continuing to the next chapter. Requests for resubmitting assignments may be made by a student at any time.
The grading scale:
90-100 is an A,
80-89 is a B,
72-79 is a C.
