Course Description

One Stroke painting is the hottest form of decorative painting today.  Painting on glass and ceramics is now a very popular surface, and the course gives you many to choose from.  Painting with Folk Art enamels are easy.  You will learn dramatic wildflowers, perky daisies, gorgeous leaves, curliques, apples, berries, bumblebees, dragonflies, beautiful roses, and rosebuds.  People love receiving mugs, candle dishes, and ivy bowls.  You will enjoy painting on many surfaces.

In this course,  Joan will take you step-by-step in learning this exciting and easy painting method. This is so convenient for in-home art study and learning is at your own pace.

Each lesson will have painted stroke guides, as well as written instructions, and complete designs for you to print and use for your convenience. The lessons are designed for your enjoyment in learning painting online.  Joan will be paying careful attention to your comments and questions and will help you all the way to painting independence.  Joan has incorporated many websites, for you to browse in for your supply needs, as well as information and organizations to join for painting.

Course Requirements

No prior experience in painting is needed for this course. All reading materials and stroke guides are included. No download programs are required.

Course Goals

The goal of this course is for you to paint colorful wildflowers, daisies, apples, berries, leaves, curliques, cabbage roses, rosebuds, bumblebees, and dragonflies.

You will learn how to create a complete design, on a candle dish, mug, stemmed goblets, baking bowls and ivy bowls, using the elements learned in each lesson.

After this course, you will gain confidence to paint your own designs for a rewarding new hobby. You will be able to use one or two elements learned to create many unique designs that you can share with the world.

Course Materials

SUPPLIES:

Brushes: Students need to obtain the following supplies: Plaid by Donna Dewberry. You can use the brushes for acrylic or enamel paints. Either one works fine.

Brush Sizes: 3/4" flat, #12 flat(1/2"flat), #8 flat, #2 script liner, 1/2" scruffy or 3/4" scruffy

Paints: Folk Art enamel paint (lid has an 'E' on top)

Colors (Enamels): Clear Medium #4035, Wicker White, Licorice, Engine Red, Berry Wine, Baby Pink, Italian Sage, Linen, Thicket, Green Forest, Yellow Ochre, Violet Pansy, Burnt Umber, Midnight, Sunflower, Schoolbus Yellow

Miscellaneous: Foam Plate (palette), Paper Towels, Non-deodorant Soap Bar, Practice Pad (50lb. paper weight works best), Wax Paper (for practicing over stroke guide, Brush Basin, Mini Trivet (optional -terrific for drying brushes flat

Surfaces: Candle Dish, Mug, Ivy Bowl, any kitchen bowls. You can choose what you want to paint on, as you practice. Finished designs are painted on the above mentioned surfaces, but you are free to use what you want. Thrift stores have many options for painting surfaces.

Grading Policy

There are no grades issued in this course. The quizzes after the assignments are geared to reinforce what was learned in the lesson. There are no time limits in completing the quizzes.

Instruction Method

The instruction method used in this course is the "One Stroke" method. One stroke means, you blend and highlight all in one stroke. This is a simple technique that anyone can learn, no matter, what your painting experience is. You will be learning topics, one stroke at a time, and will build to a complete design.

How do you complete this course?

Completing this course is submitting all the lessons and assignments, which will be reviewed by the instructor. The instructor will send you feedback, as you submit these. The instructor automatically gets these by e-mail, when the student "completes" the assignment or lesson.
