Course Description

This class will introduce you to the basic concepts of weight training as a means to build and shape muscle, and improve your health and vitality. A suggested routine will be provided, and you will be expected to work out for 4 weeks to test out the principles before you complete the course. This course will help the average exerciser look and feel better and serve as a foundation for those who want to go further with bodybuilding or weight training.

Course Requirements

There are no prerequisites, but you are advised to check with your doctor before starting this or any exercise program. While designed for beginners, the class will also be helpful who have worked out without guidance and without success in the past. It is recommended for men and women 18 or older, but there is no upper age limit, as long as your doctor approves.

Course Goals

Learn the basic principles and benefits of weight training. Learn which variables to adjust and what routines lead to success in bodybuilding and/or muscle shaping and toning. Learn and practice specific exercises and techniques. Set fitness goals for yourself and make exercise part of your lifestyle.

Reading Materials

Nothing is required, but several books will be recommended and interesting websites noted.

Grading Policy

Grading is essentially pass/fail. Passing, and qualifying for certificate of completion, requires studying all lessons, passing quizzes, and working out at least 6 times in 4 weeks, submitting your workout details for review.
