Course Description
A study on how to cope with Alzheimer’s Disease. This class will teach you how to safely care for an Alzheimer's patient at home. This course can save you thousands of dollars that you would have to pay to a nursing home.
Lesson one focuses on: Understanding the illness, how to be a care giver, how to cope with being a care giver, community support, and legal issues.
Lesson two covers: Treatment, medications, diet, exercise, hygiene, environment, and how to best handle an aggressive patient.
Lesson three will teach you the tricks of the trade on how to: Child proof your home, motivate the patient, and promote good nutrition.
Lesson four is on: Promoting good health, skin care, watching for infection, and how to monitor vital signs.
Lesson five is on physical health and covers: hydration, bowel problems, adult diapers, and bowel treatments.
You can earn professional quality class certificates to hang on your wall to show your merit and achievements. The class will make you an excellent care giver and improve the quality of life for the person you are caring for.
Course Requirements
At least a high school education is required to fully understand the medical and care-giving issues involved in patient safety. Some college or related experience is helpful but not required.
You complete this course on line by reading the lessons then completing the assignments and tests. The course is five lessons long with each lesson having an assignment and a test. You can work at your own pace and complete the course in an average of 2 to 8 weeks or longer if you prefer.
Course Goals
The goals of this course are to provide you with the knowledge base that you will need to safely care for an Alzheimer's patient in your home and how to cope with being a care-giver for someone with a serious illness. This course will pay for itself a hundred times over by saving you money not spent on nursing home placement.
Course Materials
All reading materials you need for this class are provided in class. There is no additional material cost. There are free weblinks included in each class that show you much about the world of the Alzheimer's patient and how to cope with that world.
Grading Policy
There 5 tests worth 100 points each and 5 assignments worth 50 points each.
Grading Scale: 90% -100% = A
80% - 89% = B
70% - 79% = C
60% - 69% = D
0% - 59% = F
